I wasn't happy with him but he had a little turn around at the end of the season and if he's willing to respect his employers and the club then I'd keep him. But in any case, all players are training with the squad, whether they're staying or not.
Battlecry from Tony ... Keep up the profile of course but where would we be without this drive albeit naive at times ... we are a lucky club event be on this journey ... ride the wave
Good reading. Wubba, I'm not sure we have actually heard this stern stuff before. Last year was more - I hesitate to say it about a successful multimillionaire businessman - vacuous! I like the new Tony "best not mess with me" Fernandes. COYRsss!
I like the fact that hes fining players as it means the players cant get the hump with the manager. Harry is a pally manager so wouldnt want to do it anyway. I like the new Tony the tiger.
It's a beautiful day, the cyclists are getting to the Pyrenees, a Brit in the Wimbledon final, TF making all the right noises...get the coffee in, followed by a very chilled kir royale and some nice snacks, all will be good. I of course have to get on a plane tomorrow morning, away for the week, missing the British summer again.
Totally agree. I posted a few months ago about Beard and stated exactly that. It seemed the majority (I put it to a vote) wanted him to stay. Imo it has to be someone who understands football. Above the manager we have no-one who understands football properly. I hate to say it, but someone like Paladini (I stress not Paladini, but someone who has been in the game). Although saying that, Warnock loved Gianni going by what is in his book. A must read by the way. I havent finished yet so stayed away from the thread on it the other week!
I hate this 'someone who understands football' crap. What is there to understand other than its full of thick, greedy, immoral people? All this "football people'' bollocks is about continuing a closed shop of of the inadequate nomarks who, from Blatter on down, dominate this sport. The more genuine businessmen, like TF and Beard, we get into it the better. May take them a bit to learn the tricks, but they are better, more intelligent and, I suspect, more honourable, than the vast majority in this sick industry. Sorry Judo, nothing personal, you inadvertently hit a nerve.
Apart from Hill, Mackie, Derry and Tarrabt (if hes handled in a certain way) any of our squad have any fire in there belly for a championship slog. I expect nothing better than mid table at best. Bolton for me as favs for the Championship with Leicester for the runner up spot.
You not the only one. Just yawned when I read it and went away. It just looks like blaaah for the supporters to me. When we have built a younger team playing decent football, with drive and ambition, and are challenging for Promtion, then I'll be impressed, not from a few words.
No problem. I can see your point, but I do wonder what would have happened had Tony had someone (im going to say it again!) who knows football more than Beard does. I cant help but think their naivety in this regard has led to a few mistakes. Perhaps we wouldn't have gone out and paid such high money to players not wanted at their previous clubs e.g. SWP, Barton - who have ended up failures with us as well. Then again, maybe we would have done the same. We will never know. But for example, Warnock in his book seems to agree someone with football knowledge in the boardroom has a big difference. Perhaps they would have a more lenient approach to the manager, and understand the issues he has to go through. But on the other side of the coin, when Flavio was here he did have someone, Paladini. And that didnt go too well as he sacked managers all the time. So I can see both sides of the argument.
...and Warnock would think himself the archetypal 'football person', yet he would have advised Beard and TF that the deals for Barton and SWP were sound. And presumably Hulse was a good investment too. Yet he did make some very good signings. Its all luck and bullshit in most cases, no special knowledge required, even the greats cock it up. Which reinforces my argument mate.
