I think three in their would be the safest option and O/9 should be the central and senior figure now that Seelt has shown enough to partner Ballard in the back four, we are not talking rigid straight lines here but a clear awareness of responsibility that seemed totally absent last night.
It shows that, in the grand scheme of things, the club is being properly ran imo ... ... we have an excellent squad of young inexperienced players who'll come good as they already do in spells. I'd rather fail with this squad than 'succeed' playing like Luton or Burnley. I don't expect people to agree, in some eyes it's 'PL at any cost'.
The PL is a closed shop IMO. It's getting harder and harder just to complete at times. I would hate to see us go up and those kids getting slaughtered every weekend
I said pretty much the same in the pub last night - I said we could do with a new spine to the team. In the Jan transfer window, we could do with 3 new seasoned players to play CH, defensive CM, and Striker. Or play 09 as the defensive CM. I pointed out that Clarke is being doubled up on, and Roberts hasn't played as well since Amad was here. We look passive and pedestrian, and without an urgency. Losing possesion to many times seems to be commonplace now for some reason. Come back Amad...
It's clear that the likes of Jobe, Ekway, Mayenda, etc, will have games when they don't have the experience to get into it ... ... but I do believe they'll get there. Some people just want the PL, no matter what it takes or what we're like when we get there ... that's fair enough, I just disagree.
Whatever your smoking mate keep at it.....if you take a striker like Amad they make things happen.....that's why you call most of the goals they score 'worldies'....also when you play against a player like Amad the opposition will change the system to try to keep him out the game....other than Clarke there is very little threat from us....the opposition just needs needs to sit back and wait. It's end of November and your telling me the strikers that have played have had no chances in the last four months....ffs? I get the trend is to bitch and moan about everything.....so easy to do.....if TM moves please put in for the job because if you get it I'm putting a tenner on us with the Champions League within a couple of years because clearly you know everything and how it should be done.
It's clear that the club aren't there yet ... ... but there's a hell of a lot more right than wrong imo.
So much to unpack here. First of all, Amad is not a striker. Secondly, how many strikers in world football create multiple chances for themselves in games? I can tell you none of them play in the championship. Our midfield create nothing for the forwards to go on, I have already provided the data on touches, shots and xG in this thread and if you still think our strikers not scoring is their fault then fair play you must be watching the games blindfolded. Thirdly, why does me posting my opinions on this message board mean I think I am better than Mowbray? If we are going by that logic then you must think you are better than Speakman and Harvey since you think they have failed with striker recruitment?
Ipswich are 1 point off 1st place with George Hirst up front, what on earth are you talking about? And Amad scored 1 or 2 “worldies” not 14. Boro lost Archer, Akpom, Ramsay, Giles and Steffen. Half of their starting Xl, we lost ONE player and signed about 5/6 squad players that will improve us over the course of the season because we should never have players playing out of position with how many options we have. Yet we still do.
My apologies your right....Amad's goals were just tap ins....lol. Your obviously right with everything I bow to your superior knowledge.
I'll support the club whatever they decide re the manager.....but .....to even think of changing this guy after all that has been achieved in such a short space of time would be ludicrous. If we had Pep in as our manager, a few of our fans would be wanting him out the first sign of downturn.... don't people realise that sh it happens now and again, things don't always go to plan, not always always smooth in an upward curve...we all knew there would be the odd knock back, Mowbray himself has said so. Calm down, we have a decent, well respected manager, he will get it sorted. But I guess, if some didn't want Mowbray in from day one, then that will fall on deaf ears
So we finished 6th last season because Amad scored 14 unstoppable wonder goals and now we’re at a disadvantage because every other championship club clearly has a world class striker and we don’t.. crikey.
I was one of the few that was reasonably happy when we brought Mowbray in, I could see he was a good fit for what we’re trying to achieve. By the end of last season I loved him and he’d surpassed all my expectations. Then, through the summer, I was hugely put off by the way he carried on. Throwing players (young lads) under the bus in attempts at self preservation - the trait I dislike most in managers (why I could never warn to Allardyce or Neil like most of our fans did). Then this season the approach has changed and he’s undone a lot of what made us relatively successful last year. I understand wanting a more controlled, measured approach and it has been effective at times but it can be pretty laborious and tough to watch in games like Wednesday and it seems pretty formulaic and easy to set up against. I still think our recruitment now is absolutely top notch and unlike many I think Mowbray is underachieving with the talent that he has at his disposal at this level. Yes, even the striking options. I know many (most?) think the opposite is true. I’m not calling for him to be sacked but I don’t think I’d shed too many tears now if he went, particularly if we brought in an exciting replacement with a potentially higher ceiling. I can’t imagine what someone like Kieran McKenna could do with this squad and there’s other McKennas out there, it’s just difficult to pick the right one as you may end up with a René Meulensteen instead.
I have an inclination to play Dan with Ekwah for now and give Jobe who is without doubt a star of the future a rest to recharge his batteries but again Adil must start for me, my idea is a bit left field and includes resting both Clarke and Roberts for a couple of games, as far to much expectation has beeen placed on both this season, and we forget how young Clarke is at times. I am equally convinced by posts on here suggesting they switch wings regularly as I think it would give us a new dimension, Equally I would like to see Pritch and or Dack involved if not starting cetainly as early substitutions if things are going against expectations. its a messy answer but so is the situation at present and being older than the Football Echo I am not sure what a 3 is tbh. but thanks for asking .
Massive gamble by Southampton, but then again they had money to burn. He might end up playing a part for them later in the season, but it feels like a great bit of business by us
