In my opinion Tony and the board have taken a very difficult, brave decision today. We've all been on here, musing as to which way was the best way to go! In many ways, they couldn't win. They could have left it for another couple of months, showing sentiment and, some would say, loyalty towards Neil. But if things hadn't improved, it would almost certainly have been too late by then and they would have been slated. Doing it now, they are still getting slated by some. No win situation imo. I can't decide how I feel about this. I said earlier that my instinct was to give him a little longer, but then, I'm not a successful business man pumping millions into a business! Whatever happens now with whoever comes in, let's get behind the new man and try to help get the club out of the ****e. As for Neil....many thanks and good luck. I'll never forget that day in May when I watched us collect the league trophy. Thanks for that!! And finally.....to those who are slagging TF off....get real ffs!!
Totally agree - damned if you do, damned if you don't. At least we perhaps have a fighting chance (Ã la Martin O'Neill), rather than being in the same boat a month down the road. This likely explains the delay in announcing any big signing transfers so far this month. Tony probably wants to have the new manager's input regarding such important decisions. There may even be greater financial resources available to the incoming manager than Neil would have had access to. From a business perspective, maintaining Premier League football at the club is also worth around 75 million pounds.
I think the player factor may have had a big part on the decision - if there's a revolt (possibly led by Joey) then NW's position was untenable. In that regard, it may be relevant that there have been no Barton tweets tonight. Sunday night and with no football to play during his suspension, you'd think he'd have time to say a few words about Neil...
Swiss Tony has banged a lot of money into the club and he won't have taken this decision without the Mittals input. A brave move but as we said this morning, it was now or never. They've taken a big step to show that Premiership survival is key for them and frankly I can't argue with that. The key is now the right man and I'm not sure that man is Mark Hughes.....
And if you're right...and I suspect you could well be...that doesn't bode too well for the future does it?
