Because it was the only way the word could be used to make it offensive to anyone. Pretty obvious what you meant. So whenever anyone says holocaust it has to mean the "Jewish Holocaust". Well, that is wrong. As Robin Van Fibreglass said, if my wife was murdered, and the commentator has of said "Player A is getting murdered today", I should get offended and he should be sacked. A news reader got sacked for stating that "The building collapse was a real 9/11 moment". Again, poor choices of words, but surely 95% of us just get on with it. It is the 5% of sensitive crybabies who make life difficult. We really will have no commentators with any character in the future. Just a pack of robots.
