Really? For me, Smith is miles ahead of Mackie.

Mackie had a great start, a la Agyemang, but soon faded and quickly looked like a workhorse with little flair, a poor touch and a Milan Baros type player than just ran down blind alleys.

I'd have Smith over Mackie every time.

There you again Northy using actual facts backed up by photos to make a point....

I'm not saying that Smith had a particularly bad game on Saturday (i wasn't there and i've only seen the highlights) but I don't think he is Prem quality, also i think gomadgego is is being pretty unfair above, yes Mackie did slow down last season he stopped scoring a goal a game... but i would at least like to have his energy on the pitch as an alternative to Smiths experience. Looking at northys link above Mackie would have got a tackle in and not run off when we didn't have the ball.

And i still thinks Smiths shots are weak.

I can't see how 'Smith is miles ahead of Mackie'...

    Not for me anyway.

'He stopped scoring a goal a game' - I think he went 15 or so without one prior to getting injured? Could be wrong. Agyemang did the same and look what he's done since.

I just think Mackie will be too much of a headless chicken for the Prem and I've always thought his general technique and composure was poor.

You'll get no argument from me re Agyemang, i just think mackie's energy, youth and a never give up attitude balanced with more experiance players will help us, i think Mackie's energy was sort of infectious and did lift the work rate of the team, this might translate into running around like a headless chicken in the prem, but i hope not.

if its a choice between Smith and a fully fit Mackie - i think he certainly deserves an opportunity.
