I think all new loans from February onwards are classed as emergency loans, as there are no transfer windows until after the season has finished.

Gilmartin is out on loan (I think he'll go to a League 1 or 2 side in the summer) and I'd keep Bonham's football to the Academy and Development teams as I think GK is the one position where someone of his age shouldn't be playing first team football. If Bond hadn't already made his debut, I'd be saying exactly the same for him.

For me Scott is still one of those 'with potential'. 23 is far too early to be writing him off, and poor keepers don't play for the U21s! He just hasn't developed as much as we have hoped. You do have to ask why is that - How good a goalkeeping coach is Chamberlain? Or is it Loach has come as far as he ever will?

Maybe it will take signing someone like Kuzsczak on a permanent basis (if possible) and letting Loach out on loan for a season or two. 23 isn't too old to go out on loan and to improve their game! I certainly don't want us to lose him if possible!

Over the moon about this, SL has made too many mistakes over the last couple of seasons and has had no one pushing him from within for the number 1 jersey. Hopefully this is the kick in the @rse he needs to make hime realise there is someone else!

Well done SD and the team for getting this experienced keeper in;)

Found this comment on WO site which gave me a little chuckle

"A second loan signing driven by the need to use up surplus K's and Z's in Hornet shop shirt naming dept." :)

I am curious to see how Kuszczak is going to fit in up front, but he could form a good pairing with Deeney you never know..........sorry though we were looking for a striker <laugh>

Being serious though, I'm not sure how this is going to work. Is SD going to drop Loach and play Kuszczak? If so how is Loach going to prove he deserves his place back in the first team again?

How many matches has Kuszczak played this season, accord to the reports he's not played for United this year. If so how sharp is he going to be, if he's not been playing any games?

According to the Man Utd website "Tomasz has made 61 appearances for the Reds but will now have his sights set on helping Watford, currently in 14th place in the Championship, avoid relegation." Well if Man Utd say we're in 14th place it must be true <doh>.

    This must be true.

Manchester United loan Kuszczak to Watford

Tomasz Kuszczak, the Manchester United goalkeeper, has been loaned to English Championship side Watford until the end of this season, the Polish goalkeeper has been out of favour with manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

Tomasz Kuszczak, the Polish national team goalkeeper, has not played a single game for United in the season but he is the fourth team goalkeeper after Anders Lindegaard, David De Gea and Ben Amos.

Kuszczak must necessarily be allowed to play if the Poles are going to have some chance of getting out of the group stage of the Eurochampionship in Poland this summer. Watford in 17th place of 24 teams in the Premier B league and eleven points from a seat in the finals.

Kuszczak joined Manchester United from West Bromwich Albion in 2006 but was always below goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar.

    Kuszczak loaned to Watford

Manchester United have loaned Polish goalkeeper Tomasz Kuszczak to Championship team Watford for the rest of this season as he has got no chance with United this season.

Kuszczak is 29 years old, and has been in the United ranks for six years, came from West Brom in 2006. He has not hidden his willingness to get away from Old Trafford, where it has sunk into fourth place in the pecking order behind them, Anders Lindegaard, David de Gea and Ben Amos.

His contract with United expires this spring, but the Pole has played only 32 matches

both bonham and gilmartin are on loan for the rest of the season. we definitely can't afford his wages so there's a cat's chance in hell of us buying him at the end of the season (yes i know the odds of us getting him on loan were slim but these are even worse). this is purely to instill confidence in loach because he is our best keeper and with the money we have and the repuation our club has we cannot get a better keeper. let's hope this tactic works

Sorry I may be going a bit against the trend here but I am a little surprised by this move. I'm sure it will be good for SL and that he will learn a great deal from such an experienced keeper. However, a lot of the pressure on our defence arises from the inability of our strikers to convert chances - ie. they know that conceding a goal could mean game over. Is there any team in any of the 5 National divisions with a lower scoring rate amongst their so called strike force than we have ? This fact alone could place too much pressure on our defence to keep clean sheets and thus cause nervousness and mistakes. I think that this move tends to rather cement the idea that SL is our weak link which I don't believe is the case. Better would be to loan Iwelumo out to get back his confidence in goal scoring at any level and to bring in Assombalonga or Wichelow. At least that would show that SD is at least focussing on what our real problem area is.

You're not alone cologne - whilst not averse to the idea, I too am surprised - the goalkeeping position is not the most pressing of our problems, we'd be better served by addressing the problems at the other end.

I wonder if those fans who are expressing the thought that this spells the end of SL are simply setting themselves up to fail, as it were. Sure SL has made mistakes but, unlike one poster on this very thread seems to think, he most certainly has saved our bacon in a large number of games and IMO has 'credit in the bank'. The thought that Kuszczak is coming here because he is ranked number 4 at Man U behind the likes of David De Gea must surely be of concern - from what I've seen of him, De Gea makes just as many mistakes as Loach!

I know we have two keepers out on loan RG at Crawley and JB at Harrow, but like Gavin Massey they can be recalled in difficult circumstances.

But neither of them are any better than SL. Gilmartin was given a handful of games to prove himself, but he was very shaky and had even less command of his box than Loach, plus he cannot kick (reminds me a bit of Richard Lee). Whilst Bond is a great young prospect, he is not ready for Championship football every week. He is young, fragile and has a lot to learn still. However, in 5/6 years time he will be a great keeper, after all he is only 18!

I think this is a very good signing - for Kuszczak, Loach and Watford

In particular it will help Loach by taking a lot of pressure off him - he is not a fool and knows the last season and a half have not seen the progress he would have expected. He loses his place - temporarily to an experienced "on loan" keeper - not to a young rival. If he accepts this as an opportuninty to learn and improve his game he can come out of this well.

I like Scott Loach and hope this will help him grow again

Happy days, loach needs a break. Not in the negative sense of the word, I hope he comes back stronger.

    Good signing !

Well I can see that it is good for Kuszczak--he gets some game time before the Euros, and a chance to earn another contract away from United. Not sure what we gain from it though--I don't expect him to be a significantly better keeper than Loach--maybe worth a couple of points over the rest of the season, but that is neither here nor there now. Nor does it help our longer term team building project. What we really need is a new striker, to keep the fans interested for the latter part of the season, which is in danger of drifting away. People come to watch a goalscorer, not a goalie. But most of all we need a strong finish to the season and evidence that young players are coming through, to encourage us to renew season tickets for next season. This fellow is not going to be here next season is he?

a striker is exactly what we need...i was surprised to hear this today, as BB said, a goalkeeper wasn't high priority...
