He played sporadically for us and never established himself over about 4 seasons and 4 managers. He scored a good goal at Goodison Park in 2009 and then **** all in four years. Never consistent, never committed.
If he was not rated by one manager, that might be the case, but NO manager at City trusted him enough to make him a regular.
He made 29 appearances for us in the 2011-2012 season, Barmby obviously rated him, he played him in almost every game.
Weak. Brownie played him 11 times in the Prmier League when he was just 18, Dowie played him in the majority of his games, Pearson played him in 34 Championship games in the 16 months he was with us and Barmby played him in almost all his games. Are we seeing a pattern here?
Yes I think we are. 70 appearances in 5 years, and 2 goals in that time. That's 14 per annum and a goal every 2.5 years.
Much better than Rosenior, presumably you think he's even more ****, if you're going to judge non-strikers on how many goals the score?
You don't know if they rate him or not, you just know they haven't bid. No Premier League manager ever bid for Messi either.
Except that Rosenior is a defender and Cairney is a midfielder, coupled with Rosenior playing 125 Premiership games against Cairney's 11. Not comparable at all.
Cairney may well have improved since his City days and might even continue to improve. Don't think his flaws can be ironed out though. Games passed him by if he did not have the ball at his feet (foot).
Who mentioned the Premier League? But as you bring it up, Cairney's PL record with us is 1 in 11, so is Huddlestone's, should we get rid?
We get the point, you fancy Cairney, some of us don't. We can't prove he is not really Premiership standard if he never plays in it, and you can't prove he is. Currently, on the face of it, no Premiership manager seems to regard him highly enough to try and secure his services but that doesn't mean you should change your opinion. I admire your loyalty (as I do to Barmby), I just happen to think both were out of their depth at the time they got their chances to play/manage at the top level. Both may still get a chance to prove me wrong, I hope they do, but how about we reserve judgement for 30 years and then look back on their records and see if we can agree?
My point was that their goal scoring was irrelevant as they played in different positions. What is relevant is the number of games they are being picked for at that level. So far you have used Messi and Huddlestone as comparisons in your arguments. Are you seriously comparing them to Cairney?
