Visiting centre halves must absolutely love the fact that they visit the KC knowing they'll have one striker to mark, admittedly all our current strikers that get selected are not suitable for the lone striker role.

They also must love the fact that if they're playing against 2 of our wingers, usually only one is in anything like 'form'.

I'm going to start a campaign called bring back 4-4-2. This formation Barmby insists on playing in home games is ****.

Yeah, scrap the formation that helped is perform well and create more chances for more players than the opposition, who just happen to be the leagues top side.

    That's the way forward. <ok>

Football is about opinions so why shove yours down the throat of everyone.

Cairney had a great game last night and in MY opinion held the ball extremely well. Barmby wants the team to hold possession and if that means a slow build up probing for an angle then so be it

I thought Cairney was our 2nd best player last night, after King, who was very good first half but didn't have a great second half (his first touch is still a worry)

His role was to come deep, get the ball and distribute it to the front 4 players, and I thought he did that very well.
Unfortunately for Cairney, McKenna who has had a great season had probably his worst game for a long while and it meant Cairney had to help out in the more defensive side, which isn't his strong point.
Evans is a totally different player and they play totally different roles in the team (just because they both play central midfield doesn't mean they are asked to do the same job for the team)

Cairney still has faults, he does tend to slow the pace of the game down, he has the turning circle of an oil tanker and he is weak in the tackle. I'm certainly not his biggest fan, but last night, I think it is wrong to say he was poor last night, but everyone is entilted to their own opinion, people just should remember, theirs is an opinion, not fact!

I dont think its fair comparing Cairney to Evans. They do totally different jobs.

For me, Evans and McKenna have to start in the two deeper midfield roles all day long. I dont know how Cairney would fit into that system though.

Hopefully, if Koren is injured, we will see King and Stewart on the wings with Brady down the middle again.

Cairney is a good player but not suited to Championship football unless the coaching staff start getting him to do a few things differently, this thread says it all really, everybody can see he is talented, Barmby knows he is a good player but Evans is a much more effective player at this level.

Tom Cairney was once again, excellent. Anyone who fails to see this doesn't understand football and I have no interest in their points of view as they really aren't worth listening to. Don't back down from your opinion JD, you got it right in your first post. No need to compromise for some of the people on here.

I agree that lots of people on here are clueless about football, but you're clueless about the whole point of a message board <doh>

For what its worth I haven't been the biggest lover of TC but thought last night he was excellent - stronger now in the challenge and never wasted a ball. The Soton players in the end didn't get near him.

He does slow the game down though and with Mckenna in the side they are more pedestrian in their movement. Corry Evans for me is a must start.

We should be able to adapt the side round the lad though - he is definitely a talent.

As others have said both Rosenoir and Daws wer poor last night although I didn't think that Soton were overly dominant once we'd got to grips with their real talent that was Lallana - Lambert was a donkey in the Grant Holt mould and Hobbs generally had him in his pocket all night.

Results other than Brighton went for us last night. Need to keep the faith.

For me Cairney was a close second for manof the match. May be it was someone with a personal grudge sending in all ofthe 3 anti-Cairney texts?

I thought he played well last night. He kept the ball ticking over well.

His effort on goal brought a great save out of their keeper, and it was at a time where City could have just let the game go by and die without a fight.

There's things he needs to learn ie kick with both feet and try to pass faster, but that takes time.

There were other players on that pitch in black and amber, who need to get their fingers out, and could do with all this criticism been directed their way than Cairney ie Fryatt and Rosenior.

It's about opinions at the end of the day, Bob is right. There is no doubt that Cairney is a good player but has he performed how we would expect him to this season? Agreed he wasn't that bad last night but there are things lacking from his game and in my opinion we are better when he doesn't figure. He could still improve though.

Cairney did leave us more exposed than our normal midfield pairing do but I think that was aided by two factors. The first is that McKenna was fatigued and the second is that he was playing against the best team in the division.

Agree with most of that, Rosie had probably his worst game for us, looked way off the mark last night, Cammy needs to be dropped out of the squad altogether for a few weeks, doesn't look to be the slightest interested, suspect he thinks he's far better than he actually is! Do you think McKenna was pulled off because he was off his usually superb game or to prevent him getting yellow carded? Where can I get a bet on that he does get a yellow at Festa on Saturday to get his two match suspension over and done with against Coventry & Millwall?

I'd like to see him fulfill his potential but he seems to be a luxury player for me, even if that sounds a bit harsh. He has the ability no doubt at all. If we do go up (haven't given up hope on that yet) then he can do a job in the Premiership, he proved that already.

If he can do a job in the premiership then the lad obviously has talent. Do you think his "lack of input" has something to do with his team-mates? If nobody is prepared to move then how can he play killer passes?

When we got relegated the we're rumours thy Cairney would go for £3m, at the time I said **** off as I thought he should be a focal point of our team for years and years to come. Now I would take £3m for him but I still think and always have thought he should e a focal point for years and years to come. He needs solid game time game after game not odd bits and bobs here and there, if he's not going to get that constant game time here he needs to be on loan, I know he's a handy player and one we would want in our squad but were wasting a potentially brilliant player by not letting him develop.

****ing iPhone - a mission to go through fixing everything I'm sure people can guess what some of those words should be

TC was poor overall last night compared to his 2nd half performance @ Palace. It will be Mckenna and Evans back in the middle @ Festa.

King for me was best by far followed by Vito,. far to many had off nights overall. According to NB interview post match the lads are really up for Festa game. Maybe that was more on there minds especially when saints got 2-0 up and Mckenna was taken off.(Rightfully in my mind to save him).

If McKenna gets booked @ Festa then he misses the Pompey and Coventry games but gets a 2 week rest and will be back for busy easter games @ Millwall and home to Middlesboro.
