Sorry mate, but thats something I'll never understand or agreew with. To have such hatred for a team such as Chelsea(for example) during a Prem game, then change and support them because the have come across the channel makes absolutely no-sense what so ever to me.
Its each to thier own i suppose but if i dont like Team X, i wont suddenly change my mind because they are playing a team from another country?
There are many ways that could be described but i for one could never see myself cheering John Terry scoring a winner in the CL. Are you honestly saying you (or anybody else for that matter) would ?
I dont want this to go down the "race v patriotism" road, but i just dont understand it to be honest

Simple question, Why do you suddenly support a team that you spent money to see and shout and scream at when playing QPR ? Whats changed ?

I'm with you on this one Queens - my dislike for most of British clubs participating in CL still extends into their European ties, and couldn't care less if they get out of group stage or not. I love watching CL league football, as it is highest quality (Real, Bayern, Barca etc) but I hold no allegience to any team in English football that isn't QPR.

European Cup only gets interesting at the knock out stage, this league format is boring as hell and is just a money making exercise.......

Really? Watching Barca or Real gets boring to you....?

And you are a QPR fan. I hope i never sit next to you at a game as it would obviously be very boring for you too...

Quite possibly the most puzzling of your posts ever.

    Opinions eh Queens.

I just find the group stages predictable it's mostly the same teams qualifying for the ko stage each year. Personally I would prefer to see straight knock out with an open draw none of this seeding lark, but it will never happen.

Tonight Rte were showing the Liverpool game but it held no interest for me although I'm sure some would have enjoyed it.

    Fair enough Tran. <ok>

I enjoy watching the groups stages too as i get to see some of the best teams at thier best...even if it is against inferior oppo. They still have to deliver and beat them.
You are indeed correct nd generally the "usual suspects" qualify. But the chances of n upset (ie Habib v Scum) are always there.

To much money involved to mke it a straight knock out mate.

This is the "European Super League" that we're talking about <ok>

I support all British teams when they play in Europe.

I don't have to explain it, I just do.

I suppose it's a patriotism thing. I'd rather a British club won than a non-British club. Chelsea are the last British team I'd like to win anything, but, yes, I want them to win in Europe. I can't stand JT, but I recognise what a talented player his is/was. Same goes for many other players. I can't stand Gascoigne as a person, but he's just about the best British player I've ever seen in my time as an adult.

I guess I don't "hate" any club in the way that some do. Sorry! Although when Chelsea come to LR I'll be at them with everyone else.

I guess I don't take this whole tribal thing as seriously as some eh?

Not that at all mate. I just dont agree.

If we were playing Chelsea this weekend, you are seriously saying that you would support them on Wednesday in the CL and then hate them on Saturday? sorry but that doesnt work for me

What about playing outside Europe, say America or Australasia...?
And why British? Why not English or Irish or what ever (even European)
And if its patriotism, how do you stand on Northern / Southern ireland?

TBH mate, its your decision and yours to follow, but it makes absolutely no sense to me at all. Im giving you the credit that you are obviously not racist, so there is no plausible explanation that i can see...or am i missing something obvious?

Sory, just cant see it myself. is there anyone else with an opinin on this or am i just looking at it too simplistically?

FFS!! Why do you even need to mention racism?

I have given an explanation. I don't hate any team and yes, I could cheer my heart out against any of our Champions League contenders and then want them to win in their next European game. I would rather see a team win from these Isles.
I don't understand why that's so hard for even you to understand. Oh..unless of course you're trying a wind up? No...........surely not!

Not a wind up at all mate.
I mentioned Race to get it out of the way before others decided to use that as an easy jab at you.

I dont understand changing from a die hard QPR fan against Chelsea (easiest example) to supporting them because they are not from fance,Italy, Spain or the like.
As i asked. Where do you stand when it comes Northern and southern Ireland. Im not to up on my politics/history any more, but would you support a southern irish team versus Barca for ex? (be nice to see one ever make it TBH, but you get the point.)

Just seems (please excuse the expression) very "close minded"
Surely, you are all European now with the EU and your lovely purple passports...? Why does it matter anymore? The days of being English (and to some extend British) are gone now. You/ We are European, like it or not.
Your stance makes no sense to anyone that i can see?

Still, if thats what makes you happy ?<ok>

I love watching Chelsea, they are a great team. I would love QPR to beat them every time we play them. :)

Yeah agreed but you wouldnt purposely support them over Barca or Real, Bayern or Dortmund PURELY because they are from England would you ?

    You get the point?

Yep. That's exactly it. I'd rather see a team from England/Britain win against any of those teams. Almost everyone I know thinks the same way.

I know you're trying your best to make more of this, but I'm afraid you'll just have to accept that not everyone thinks like you.

People have different views and are unlikely to change their minds shocker.

That they seemed prepared to fight to the death over it is slightly more shocking.

I think I subconsciously support the English clubs too, unless I have some connection with the opposition, or am given a reason not to, usually by the performance of the other team - I remember Athletic Bilbao playing a beautiful attacking game at Old Trafford a couple of years ago, I definitely wanted them to win as a reward for their adventure. But obviously I couldn't care less when the game ends.
