Wasn't that one of Swords' favourites? Along with soccer v football and the annual debate about the poppy.

Forgot these games were on. If Australia is in Eurovision surely we can let them into the Euros. And possibly the Capital One Cup, or whatever it's called.

I miss Swords. He described me as a hippy, which pleased me.

I think of Ireland as a home nation, but not in any colonial way, just as part of our gang.

My support for 'home' nations would be in the following order:

    England
    Wales
    ROI
    NI
    Scotland

I would root for any of these against johnny foreigner.

    Christ, not you too.

I usually root for the underdog, so that means I'll support the other parts of the British Isles most of the time. Always have a soft spot for Italy though, the cynical old bastards.

Stroller, you forgot one ...... Aussie.
Out all those countries, we took all the 'naughty' people so in truth, should Aus be at the top of your list?

As it turned out, Aussie was never going to beat England this time around.
We're like the QPR of the internationals.
We have no real name players, the good ones have retired and all that's left is a bunch of league 1 juniors, with no strikers and an overload of midfielders.

Just seen the Washington goal on the NI News. It was a bit of a clanger by the Belarus keeper who dropped the ball right on to his head. All he had to do was head it into an empty net. Still, a goal is a goal.

Sounds like a move our former English international keeper might try.

You have to have someone to root for though, don't you? My wife will even decide who she wants to win an inane game show. She chooses the best looking - as if that wasn't already a prize. I would root for the most deserving of course.

You forgot Luongo, there's a real name. Included as 30th in some FIFA world best listing wasn't he?

Yes, one of the league 1 players l was talking about.
Our Aussie team is a shadow of its former self. We're in the Tony Fernandes rebuilding stage.

Hull v Sheff Wed today, Hull are strong favourites but I have a feeling the Owls might just pull off a big surprise, amazing that a club the size of Wednesday has been out of the top flight for so long...

That's why I put 'home' in parentheses. All news outlets include them when talking about the 'home' nations, and - keeping the politics right away - that's where the football (and Rugby) sides sit in my brain, for no other reason than they do.

Looks like Hull failed to sell out their end at Wembley today by about a third, Wednesday with a full compliment. Wonder whether all the aggro with Allam has had anything to do with that...

Just watching the play off final. Huge banks of unsold seats in the Hull end.
Quite surprised that they couldn't sell out!

As above, a bit surprised by all of the empty seats in the Hull end. Unlucky not to be ahead though.

Watching, but not really paying attention, saving myself for the Real v Atletico match, which BT are broadcasting free.

This one doesn't look too exciting from my glimpses.
