It's going to be an interesting 7 days coming up with games on Tuesday that affect us, and of course Saturday. Tuesday sees FGR v Mansfield and Salford v Port Vale. I would suspect we may see a draw at FGR and a win for Port Vale but who knows? As regards Saturday, there are so many permutations that could affect us, the simplest thing we can do is to return from Tranmere with 3 points, and let everyone else worry about us! With Tranmere's red card issues last time out, and the disappointment of conceding a late equaliser, this might be a good time to go there, but we need to be on top of our game, and improve our finishing. We create so many chances, yet it's a bit worrying how few we actually score from. We won at Northampton (which I wasn't over confident about), so we can do the same at Tranmere.
1-0 wins for FGR and Port Vale, so no major shocks there. Mansfield needed something from the game, imagine they were hoping for at least a point, no great damage done as far as we are concerned but a win at Tranmere wont go amiss on Saturday!
Rovers in 5th place, 3 points behind and 12GD behind Port Vale in 3rd place Saturdays fixtures FGR v Hartlepool, Northampton v Bradford, Port Vale v Oldham, Scunthorpe v Mansfield, Exeter v Carlisle, Swindon v Newport
Goal difference is going to be an issue, because Exeter and Port Vale have a much better one than the chasing pack.
FGR, Northampton, Port Vale and Mansfield should all win their games. Carlisle on good form could be a tough match for Exeter and something has to give in the Swindon/Newport match. A draw will mean they both drop points. If we and Tranmere draw or we lose, and Northampton, Vale and Mansfield win and Exeter too, we could be struggling.
Todays line up v Tranmere Belshaw, Hoole, T Clarke, Taylor , Connolly, Finley, H Anderson, Coutts, E Anderson, Nicholson. Collins. Subs Ward, Anderton, Grant, Thomas, Whelan, L Clarke, Saunders only one goal in league 2, Port Vale 1- 0 Oldham score now Port Vale 1 - 1 Oldham Scunny 0 - 1 Mansfield Sutton 1 - 0 Orient the only goals in league 2 Port Vale and Mansfield have both scored a second goal Mansfield 3 - 0 up Port Vale 2 - 2 HT 0 - 0 we seem to have had a few attempts on goal just haven't hit the back of the net yet
Curious scores in the Prem Everton 1 - 0 winners v Man Utd Brighton beating Arsenal at arsenal Leeds winning 1 - 0 and Chelsea 4-0 up Tranmere 1 - 0 Rovers down to 7th L Clarke and Grant on Nicholson and T Clarke on Kane Hemmings the scorer picks up the games first yellow card 60th minute same time as the substitutions E Anderson 63rd minute 1 - 1 Chris Merrie 2nd yellow of the game Foley replaces McManaman 70th minute FT 1 - 1 good point away from home but with other results going against us I think we have lost ground 6th in table
The ref for Rovers v Salford is Dean Whitestone, in his 28 games in the championship and 1 game in league 1 and 1 in league 2 he has dished out 85 yellow cards and 1 red card. His last match Sheffield United v Bournemouth he brandished 5 yellow cards. Hope neither side thinks it is alright to tackle an opponent
Looking at Good Friday's fixtures, the 7 game wish list for us must be: Rovers to beat Salford, Barrow to beat FGR, Hartlepool to beat Port Vale, Bradford to beat Tranmere, Oldham to beat Northampton, Sutton to win at Mansfield and Colchester to win at Exeter. To put this in to perspective, the 7 game accumulator fpr all these results to come good (at Ladbrokes) is 7,206 - 1! In other words, if anyone feels lucky and invested a mere £5 on the accumulator, they would receive £36,034 - 59p if all 7 results go our way/ Looking at the prices, one would think it's unlikely, but who knows!
We've got a better run in than Port Vale, so if we can win on Monday things will get very interesting.
