Right then, here you are Eamon................we were pretty awful tbh.

Firstly. Harry must take responsibility for the very poor first half showing. We played 4-4-2 with Carroll and Barton in the centre. Neither is a holding player and their 5 always outnumbered us. Oneill clearly doesn't like playing on the right as he continuously moved in field, leaving us even more unbalanced. Carroll looked very nervous in that first half, although it's obvious that he is a talented lad. Hoilett looked our biggest threat till he was injured!!
Brum should have been 2 up at the break after hitting the bar and then blazing a sitter over the bar.
Harry at least sorted out the formation at half time, taking off the poor Zamora and switching to a central midfield 3 with SWP on the right and Phillips on the left, after replacing the injured (again!!) Hoilett. Austin was the lone striker now. This looked so much better and more balanced and SWP made a positive impact imo. Even so, after taking the lead we never really looked like getting a 2nd till Barton's excellent free kick struck the post right at the end.
We look solid and hard to beat, but there's a long way to go if we're to win this league!!

Player ratings:

Green - 8 - Did nothing wrong and came for crosses well.
Simpson - 8 - Solid and dependable.
Dunne - 7 - Mistimed a couple of headers but looked solid apart from that.
Onuoha - 7 - A couple of dodgy passes out but still very reliable.
Hill - 6 - Looked a bit exposed when they ran at him, but gave everything as usual.
Hoilett - 7 - Would have had an 8 as he was very good in the first 30 mins, but he's always fecking injured!
Barton - 7 - Won a lot of headers and made good interceptions in front of the back 4. Gave the ball away too much. Very unlucky with a superb free kick that struck the post.
Carroll - 6 - Looked very nervous. Harry's 1st half formation really did him no favours. Improved as the game went on. Looks a talent though.
Oneill - 7 - Ran, ran and ran. Clearly doesn't like it on the right though. Not sure he has a lot of quality but he certainly gives it his all.
Zamora - 5 - Actually laid off a couple of balls but the crowd have clearly turned on him and he mustn't start again!
Austin - 8 - Great that he got his goal and he looks the real deal. Won some good headers against their giant centre backs and ran all game long.
Subs:
SWP - 7 - Made a real difference, although that was also down to Harry getting the formation right in the 2nd half. Worked hard and ran at them at times.
Phillips - 6 - Clearly not match fit, but showed some promise.
Jenas - 7 - Looked assured when he came on and helped us retain possession.

Much appreciated, Col.
If we can still win whilst playing ugly ................ I'll take it any day.
We will no doubt have days where everything clicks and we slam 4 or 5 in but if we can still win instead of a draw or loss ............ I'm more than satisfied.

we had no one else with johnson injured, would have played shariff instead, harry loan striker please

Or a lone striker, numerous fans and journos are begging for the 4231 but the idiot of a manager can't see it. We can play Carroll, kranjcar and Philips in that formation and are far superior than with Zamora who literally wouldn't make the side I played in.

I also see people said a winger was getting past hill which is exactly what will happen. BAE has to start there from now on.

Would that be the idiot of a manager who has us joint top?

To be fair, 16 points from a possible 18 so I'm not complaining... I agree about riding our luck a bit, and these. 1-0 wins leave me on the edge of my seat; however a win is a win and we as hoops fans are by nature looking for something to grumble about. ( me included ). Lets wait and see. For me the main change seems to be teamwork and the desire to win. That, as we will all surely agree is the major change this season, so if we grind out results then I for one will continue to be happy..

You should all shut the hell up. Somebody please close this thread, it's embarrassing. It's embarrassing to be seeing all these idiotic and opinionated reviews, so disparate and completely counter to each, not in support of the team or the coaches.
Would you all just be quiet and stop embarrassing yourselves in front of the other teams and leagues.

Who cares what you all think, we won the match, it was scrappy, and that was about it. Stop discussing it so inanely, you all sound like a complete bunch of nancy pillocks. <doh>

Col your interpretation of the games is gold! Aussie we need to share a pint and talk QPR sometime soon considering you are on the coast...

Rowan as you gold coasters don't want to come to the bright lights of Brisbane. is there a pub on the coast us boys from Brisbane can come and join you

Queenslandrangers ...will totally come to Brissy , just could'nt get oranised last season and to be honest the last season was a nightmare ... we look so comfortable in the championship it's not funny. Will really commit this time to a get together either Brissy or coast... tho no football pubs I know of since GC united fell over.

You're obviously in a good mood this morning Yappy..and up early too!
I had this idea a forum (like Not606) was devised for people to discuss things...So would have thought it would not be much of a forum if we all sit here quietly and not chat, or discuss.

But I might be wrong on that, so why don't you try it for a while and then come back and tell us if the "not discussing " bit was any good

(for those of you with little knowledge of humour...... again I was trying to use irony and not sarcasm...but I think I have not been so successful this time as it was edging much more towards sarcasm...so sorry Yappy I will continue to hone my humour skills)

Whether you want to classify it as irony or sarcasm is irrelevant, it needed saying.

If you want a forum where everyone reflects your views Yappy you'd better start your own. In the meantime we will continue to respect everyone's views on here regardless of whether we share them or not.

Not sure why people answer him here. He's obviously after reaction and attention judging by his poor posts that can often surpass what the thread is actually about as he tries to be controversial or just wind people up. But the internet now provides a 'forum' for people to express themselves in the safer environment of their own house etc (as we all do now) without the worry of causing offense to someone face to face. Some take advantage of that....most don't.

There's a lot of differences of opinion on this forum about yesterday's match but, for me, Col has got it spot on (again). The only slight difference of opinion I would have with him, and others, relates to Carroll. I thought he was better than some have given him credit for. He looks a real prospect, always looking for the ball and comfortable on it. Mark my words, based on this showing, he's going to be a big, big player for us.

Col your interpretation of the games is gold! Aussie we need to share a pint and talk QPR sometime soon considering you are on the coast...

Sounds like a done deal, Rowan. I'm hoping to meet up with the gang when Ian from Melbourne and the other guys make a time to watch a game in Brisbane.

Mate, it seem you are the only one who has issues with anything on this thread.
Maybe something more than this forum is causing you grief.
Life is not so bad ................ you just need to be a little flexible sometimes.
Hopefully, you will wake with a smile tomorrow.
Keep your chin up, mate.

Agree with Col. Thought we were dreadful yesterday and would find it hard to pick motm but would probably go for Austin for his work rate. Thought Birmingham were awful and don't recall Green having a save to make. I know they missed a sitter but apart from that, they were really poor. Problem is teams are going to come to LR and play defensive and try to hit us on the break - we look like we are really struggling to break teams down and will get caught out if we continue this way. If we can get some creativity going i'm convinced we will score plenty. On the plus side, four games, four goals, four wins and four clean sheets - what we would have done for that last season!

Totally agree with this, if my memory serves me correctly when Newcastle won the Championship a few years ago they seemed to win nearly every game 1-0 or by the odd goal, which at the time I thought was pretty poor for a team of their talent. In other words if we can follow in their footsteps I will be very happy. :)
