Proposed new version of Champions League, expanded to 36 clubs, is supposed to be ‘better’ for national leagues than a breakaway by the mega clubs. It will add an extra 100 matches to the schedule and require an extra 4 match dates before Christmas every season. It’s virtually impossible to work through unless the PL is cut to 18 teams.

Steve Parrish of Palace leading the outrage faction, given that his club is likely to be a loser in this scenario. As, of course, is any club dreaming of an place, ultimately, in the top league.

Though I do think the leagues in this country have too many teams in them. The Championship season is ridiculous.

I expect a fair few clubs will go to the wall due to the financial implications of Covid, so a restructuring of the leagues may be enforced upon us anyway

It's long been an ambition of UEFA to make every top league reduce to 18 and eventually 16 teams to facilitate a European League which would be a midweek league. OK if the top teams buy it but FIFA have ideas on running the show, depends who has the deepest pockets and biggest sponsors.

Unlikely to make a big difference to us unless league reductions squeeze us into the 3rd level. Our ship sailed with Bernie & Flav...
 
Well done il grande Milan for a well deserved draw at Old Trafford. Though both teams are far from the quality of past years and are flattered by their current league positions.

Leicester must be kicking themselves for going out to a team that Rangers can draw with.
