Certainly what happened at City was the new rules on hand ball that we're at fault. Although I suppose that, without VAR, the hand ball wouldn't have been spotted.
I see what you mean, there was an incident last week and it was impossible for the player to see the ball hitting him or indeed if he had there was no chance to get his arm out of the way as he was one or two feet away and jumping trying to head the ball. I know you need to draw the line with rules but common sense you would think should play apart? By the way I've seen the City incident which is again ridicules. I think the VAR could be used better to catch the nasty or two footed leg breaking tackles.
That’s it. They’ll hide behind only using it for absolutely definitive decisions like if the ball touched someone’s hand but run away from blatant fouls where the ref needs help trying to monitor 20 players at a set piece or where he gets one imperfect view. I’d rather they scrapped the whole thing but the way it was used at the World Cup seems marginally better than what the PL in their wisdom have gone for.
VAR was brought in as a knee-jerk to all those who were always moaning about referees' mistakes etc. The problem with this is the rule on handball has been changed to take the discretion or 'common sense' out of the equation. Add that to the miniscule margins for finding players offside and you have a monster that is ruining the flow of the game and producing decisions that are really quite unfair when you consider football is supposed to be entertainment and scoring goals is the main object of the game. Whatever happened to the previous diktat that marginal decisions should always favour the attacking team?...
The thing about VAR is that it almost exclusively favours the defensive team. If a goal is scored, VAR is there to potentially take it away again. When an attacking team is caught offside because the linesman raises his flag, the game stops. We have seen many examples of where the linesman has guessed and often got his offside call wrong, but never thought the game stops and the attempt on goal is thwarted. There is no VAR to assess whether he made the right call and the attaching team don’t get another chance as a result. But VAR is used to check they have scored within the rules of the game. Both favour the defending team when I thought the authorities were trying to create more scoring opportunities. I predict VAR will go within 2-3 years and only goal line technology will remain.
Mental scenes in the Honduras derby between Olimpia and Motagua, with three dead and some injured, including players.... Three die & Emilio Izaguirre among 10 injured in Honduras riots - BBC Sport https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/49386645
I Think VAR will work it out in the end because we simply cannot go back to the amount of human error that was involved I would say let it run this season and we may get the most accurate league table ever ... Think when it comes to the relegation battle it simply has to correct today so I personally welcome it as it will become more refined so bollocks to anyone who is already moaning about it
see Luke Freeman on for the blades Best of luck to him as he has the promise to become a top premiership player imo
47 mins GOAL - Sheff Utd 1-0 Crystal Palace John Lundstram Substitute Luke Freeman's first touch is brilliant and it takes him past the defender and into the area. He drills it powerfully across goal and with two teammates waiting behind, the keeper has to get a touch on it. All Vicente Guaita does is palm it straight into the path of John Lundstram, who smashes it into the top of the net. That's his 1st touch in the PL!
