I thought the idea was to do away with pointless friendlies like this

I suppose it's a good opportunity to give squad players a chance to shine and to keep them engaged.
Lots of people were screaming for Tomari to start in qualifiers, so let's see how he does tonight.
Huge game for Maddison too, playing in his favourite 10 position.
Think I've talked myself into realising why they're playing this tonight.

Don’t forget they look like Norwich

With the possible exception of Dunk, Tomori and Maddison, this starting 11 have demonstrated just why they don't start for England when it matters (Henderson shouldn't anymore).
Australia look well organised and a half decent side, as they did in Qatar.

England score.

I’m struggling to understand the point of this game.

Giving squad players a chance to shine and gain experience I guess.
Most have failed the audition.
Maddison did ok.
Grealish was poor, but did assist the goal.
Watkins missed an open goal, before a good striker's goal.
I questioned the point of the game, but have come round to thinking it was worthwhile.
England looking a little better now with some A listers on.
Incredible attendance of 81000.
