Hoping they might improve, at least we got two good creative midfielders playing, Ukraine very quick on the break
Is JFH part of the England setup now? What’s his job, to make the team even more unadventurous than Southgate can manage?
I’m not watching the game, but apparently JFH is there as striker coach and is being considered to take over from Lee Carsley coaching the U21s.
It was only for the purposes of ****e humour, Col. Southgate often criticised for his caution and JFH as a manager at QPR seemed (at least to me) to be the opposite of JFH as a player.
Although, I just don't understand why we continue to sit back when we're ahead. Especially against a side like Ukraine. I guess the players are saving energy now but it's very frustrating.
Maddison has done ok, but he and especially Chilwell have demonstrated why they aren't first choice. Bellingham has the potential to be the best midfield player in the world, but he must stop holding onto the ball too long. Saka is a wonderful player and what a goal tonight. This was a bit of a stroll for England, being several classes above a well organised, but limited Ukraine. Kane scored......again!
Good question mate. I guess he will have the respect of the forwards because of his record, meaning that they play with confidence. However, I'm not sure how much JFH can help players who are much better than he ever was, like Kane and Saka. Maybe players like Toney will benefit?
That’s what I was thinking. It can’t be technique, decision making etc, can only be confidence, unless Southgate has some magic new attacking shape which requires specialist input. Which I doubt. Given his record as a coach can’t really see what he’ll bring to the U21’s either. Seems like the FA have abandoned this role as a way to develop future England managers, like they did with Southgate. Carsley (who’s done a good job) played for Ireland and now (perhaps) a Dutchman……
