Instead of having meaningless friendly matches, they've come up with a new tournament to give these interim matches a bit of an edge. They've called it the UEFA Nations League. I thought the inaugural 2018 competition went well. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UEFA_Nations_League
Ireland lost. Extremely unlucky. Should have won the game based on clear cut chances. Had 2 or 3 cleared off the line and hit the post.
These aren't Nations League mate. Euro qualifying play offs. Ireland out on penalties. Washington scores a fantastic penalty and NI are through!! Scotland through on penalties.
Crikey! Are they still that far behind? I forgot all about those matches, it's almost like the last eight months of Groundhog Day has caused a glitch in time.
Yeah, I remember that, thought it was good. But when I look at the BBC sport site tonight’s games are called European Championship Qualifiers. There’s dozens of them, it seems. Now I’m learning that some/ all of these games are ‘semi final play offs’ for the finals of a tournament that was meant to be finished already. Now, can the Israeli’s go for a pint after the match in Glasgow, if they stay outside?
Got an email only today, asking if I was still available as a volunteer driver for the Euros 2020, as they plan to use the same volunteers as selected for this year. Even if there are limited crowds, sounds as though they plan to run them come hell or high water
I had 10 tickets for four of the Dublin Euro 3020 games and a game in Bilbao. Thank god I sold them back to Uefa. I would have been extremely disappointed tonight if I still had them.
****ing hell, you plan ahead Fingy. Bad luck Ireland, but the tournament has already happened and no one won, so you didn’t miss much. I think.
If we'd have qualified, we would have had at least two games at home in a major finals for the First time ever. There would have been great excitement in the country. I would have got tickets too through the FAI as I'm a season ticket holder at the Aviva stadium. Hope Scotland and N.I. do well in their play off final now.
I've just seen the highlights and Ireland were unlucky not to score with the chances they created. They need someone who knows where the back of the net is. Commiserations mate.
I watched the Scotland penalty shoot-out last night. Any progression Scotland make in the tournament has to be a good thing for QPR as Dykes has cemented himself as a starter IF they make it to the finals and he grabs a couple.of goals in the group phase his value could rocket.
Hold on the England v Wales game was a ‘meaningless friendly’? Surely there should be a prize or the prestigious Anglo-Cymru Giant Leek of Peace Trophy could be awarded to add meaning to our lives?
