I'm not doubting you, Rick. But I used to ship goods to Brazil and the shipments would invariably go missing or into "quarantine" for months at a time. That was 10 years ago. It was one of the BRIC countries of emerging nations. It still hasn't energed.
Ha! I remember a vet over here from Uruguay who described his country as 'undeveloping'. When I asked if he meant developing he shook his head and said, "no, undeveloping".
Perhaps it puts our 1-0 loss at Arsenal into perspective. Also interesting that Arsenal won the first half 3-0 when Skipp wasn't playing whereas the second half was 1-0 to Spurs when he was.
Hugill getting a lot of negative press from WBA fans. Vrancic is getting some plaudits from Stoke fans: he seems to be making a great start at Stoke. Match between these two teams was yesterday.
Coventry 4-1 up against Fulham. Makes us realise just how well we did last season. Everyone talks now as if we were a shoo-in to win the league, but no matter how much you have in parachute payments, you still have to turn up and do it.
A day late I know, but did anyone watch England last night? It seems to me that the vast majority of football fans have no interest, what so ever, in the National Team. I personally watched Strictly live, and kept half an eye on the game on my ipad. I thought the ref was really good and showed her authority. Some of our male refs could learn a lot from her. Back to the game. Thought we played OK, but it was only Andorra. I don't think the likes of Brazil, Argentina, Germany, Belgium etc will be quaking about meeting us in Finals.
I think you are attributing a level of football ability to those teams, maybe excepting Belgium, that is no longer there. Last world cup we got to the semi final and I would say we are now better. I would guess they would all hope to avoid us in the group stages.
Didn't watch either the game or Come Dancing. Had I been forced I would probably have watched the latter, which I detest. Absolutely no interest in the national team that attracts the flag shaggers en masse.
I watch all England games if I am able to. I watched last night and thought we played well, Foden was orchestrating things from deep very well and Sancho did well. Andorra were kicking players all over the place and trying to force a reaction. I actually thought the ref had a bit of a 50/50 game, at times made some very good decisions but other seemed to book England players for something innocuous but then complete ignore some of the Andorran fouls. There was one incident where an Andorran player, already on a yellow, ran straight at Coady junped and lead with his arms while look at him and caught Coady in the face. Nothing given! And VAR didn’t even correct the decision.
I think Southgate and his team deserve our support. Southgate has succeeded in creating a team fit for purpose in the modern football world, much as Farke has done here at Norwich. England are no longer a laughing stock on the international stage even if there is still some way to go before they are good enough to win the World Cup or the Euros. The much maligned FA made this possible by their transformation of youth team coaching. I remember the then FA chairman being ridiculed when he set winning the 2022 World Cup as the target. We probably won't do it, but who at that time would have predicted we would get as far as the final of Euro 2020?
No criticism of Southgate whatsoever. The reaction to the missed penalties though was sickening. You just know that they were waiting fir it to happen so that they could get stuck into the young black players. Rashford in particular is shaping up to be a great ambassador. Do I detect the hand of Sir Alex in there somewhere?
