The England team from the last Euros would have really struggled to break down yet another average side, coming to Wembley and parking the bus. We have fast, skillfull players running beyond Kane, who is intelligently dropping deep at times and linking the play so well. They keep possession well and speed things up in the final third. Last night didn't include Rashford, Lingard, Alexander-Arnold, Trippier, Shaw, Stones, Gomes, Lalaana, Oxlaide-chamberlain. There are others like Foden too. The future is incredibly exciting for England. The Nations League and next Euros are both attainable imo.
Went to last night's match, firstly a big gripe at the matchday set-up, we arrived at the station at 7.05 yet didn't get to our seats until 8 minutes into the game. The entrances just couldn't cope with a full house and the queues were poorly managed. As we were reaching the top of the escalators inside the queues outside were just as long as when we'd arrived, some people didn't get to their seats until half an hour into the game. The match itself was as expected, the Czechs set up to frustrate and up to the goal we were probing without really looking dangerous. Once the first goal went in the confidence grew and there was some excellent passing and link-up play. The penalty looked a bit dubious but effectively killed the game. The 2nd half was far more entertaining and the Czechs trying to get forward were picked off with ease. Sterling's 2nd was the goal of the night, I had a lovely view right down the line of the shot. A deflected 4th and comic-book 5th completed a great performance from the young guns who are looking better by the game. As Col says the future is looking really exciting as a list of those players who didn't play last night as well as some younger ones many haven't heard of coming through suggests this really will be the 'Golden Generation' with a manager who has swept away the 'old guard' and their mentality and brought in a very inclusive ethos. At last I don't mind spending my hard-earned on a match day...
I would say leaving it to 7.05pm to get to Wembley station is cutting it a bit fine for a 745pm KO at a full house! I bet getting back to the station was fun afterwards?
One of the main problems is getting the tube there at peak times. We travelled from my daughter's place close to Canada Water Station, all the trains arriving as well as the platform were packed out, we got on the third train to arrive packed in like sardines, that continued all the way to Baker Street where we changed to the faster Metropolitan Line train. I've been to internationals before including a Scotland match and never had the problem we got last night, maybe the security checks just inside the entrances were slower but it really was painfully slow. Surprisingly the way back to the station was reasonable, about 20 minutes in a controlled queue but we did leave right on 90 minutes, those that stayed the full distance will probably be looking at 1 hour plus. Next time will definitely give it at least another 30 minutes...
Hooray, Scotland are beating the mighty San Marino you'd think they were 4-0 up against Germany the way they are going on
For the first time in a don’t know how long, I’ve rushed home, wolfed food, now sat with a glass of red awaiting an England game
Caught napping there, they had a stroke of luck with the rebound but finished well. This will be a test for the young guns now...
Nice to see an England side so comfortable on the ball.....used to be we were envious of teams like Italy France Germany Brazil etc who used to be so good now England have the quality of player...
