I'd agree...they're getting there...USA always going to be team to beat. Didn't look a penalty to me anyway...
Said to the young un, you can see which way shes putting it from her stance and run up. Poor technique.
Same as the offside.....no way the AR could see that as offside in real time and we're talking millimetres here.....not a clear and obvious error.....those situations should be officials call same as umpires call in cricket.....if deemed ok in real time original decision stands....
Just not quite good enough but still well done to the team. Some sloppy passing and a few basic errors against a good usa team.
I've been trying to work out the best way to solve the VAR problem. I agree that something similar to "umpire's call" in cricket may be the way to go. If it's less than say 6 inches then you go with the on field decision. Problem is that the assistants aren't flagging and leave it to technology. Under the current use, White was offside and if you're going to have VAR for offside there has to be a line, just as there is a goal line.
Unfortunately years of complaining about wrong decisions by officials have now lumbered us with this sanitised version of refereeing...…..and it's here to stay.
Anyone watching Netherlands v Spain? Very disappointing game so far - too many misplaced passes and fouls US will destroy either side in the final
Just turned on as the Dutch scored in extra time (was expecting to see the news). Walkover for the US. Dutch number 10 gets my vote for player of the tournament. Not necessarily on footballing criteria.
I'm surprised Holland have reached the final as the only time I saw them in the 2nd half of their last 16, I think, game against Japan, the Japanese girls were playing rings around them, but couldn't finish.
England end the tournament with another defeat in an appallingly poor match, if they are hoping to promote women's football as something to be treated equally with men's football they are light years away...
Why would they want it to be seen as ‘equal’ to men’s? I think it’s seen more as an entertaining alternative, which it’s slowly becoming. There are only 2 full time professional leagues in the world, give it time.
Don't think I've heard anyone say that the women's game wants to be equal to the men's. I actually think Neville really ****ed up his selection in the semi. He swithed to 4-4-2, left out Kirby and played Paris out of position. In the last 20 minutes against the USA he brought Kirby on as a 10 and went back to the formation that had seen them into the semis. They then ran the USA ragged. I believe England could well have won the whole thing had Phil not done that.
