It must just be me? But is the BBC’s commentary and punditry of the Winter Games about as ****e as it gets? There is an undertone of drama in the vocabulary that feels like a sickening residue of one of the dreadful series they often put on the BBC It’s a scramble to own almost anything It’s not one thing but maybe the dismal tide of times.
Pretty much as i would have said it my self. I hate Ronaldo but i have to say, that he is fantastic footballer.
Ok, question time (and it's not a loaded one, just your opinion): who else would be in your top 5...personally, it would be Best, Pele and Cryuff, but very difficult to leave out Beckenbauer, Maradonna, Maldini, Zico and a whole host of others
I think he was, different era I'll grant you, wouldn't make it in today's game but quite brilliant for a number of years and worthy of the list
Why wouldn’t he make it in today’s game if he had the same level of access to fitness training and sports science etc as current players do? He might even do better as players of his type are better protected by referees nowadays. Some players, like Stan, Frank Worthington and their ilk, probably would not make it, would never get through youth level, because of attitude and lack of work ethic. I don’t think that was the case with Pele. The greatest players change the game beyond their outstanding performances on the pitch, by redefine tactics, style, expectations etc. Cruyff - lynchpin of total football, created modern Barca Beckenbauer - invented the sweeper position Puskas - centre of the Hungarian team which changed football, and Real Madrid Di Stefano - showed what a complete player was - scoring, passing, dribbling, tackling Pele - inspired generations and added athleticism to skills Bit academic and my knowledge of most of these comes from telly and YouTube. The best players I have seen live are Zidane, Maldini, Van Basten, Scholes and by a country mile Maradona. Pirlo should be in there too, and Bobby Moore. Ronaldo best player currently by a long way, Messi genius but he has a team built to showcase him, Ronaldo sometimes has to do it all by himself, like Maradona nearly always did. But the players I love are the flawed ones with arrogance, attitude and the will to entertain - Stan, Cantona, Adel, Best, Cruyff again
I think you have to do it by position. Very hard to compare Bobby Moore, who was one of the greatest ever defenders imo with Messi or Cruyff. My top 5 attacking players would be: Pele Messi Ronaldo Maradonna (cheating git!!) Cruyff I've yet to see a better midfield player than Zidane. Etc etc.
Thank you for the information I am watching Girona and may go and watch a few games in the future look a good side Only a hour or so from house
He was indeed one of the greats. There's a generation of footballers from the late 80's and 90's that seem to be forgotten. Another forgotten player from the 90's was the Brazilian Romario. Probably the second best scorer of his time after Ronaldo. The Brazilian one.
****s sake - he's only been gone a few weeks and he's a scoring sensation - either the French league is really ****e, or we just have the inverse Midas effect on players - even Caulker scored on his debut for Dundee during the week
Just like Einstein's theory of relativity there is the QPR theory of incompatibility, they just don't fit us...
