I’ve liked the Wenger era Arsenal, something pure about what he has tried to do there, despite diminishing returns. But I laughed out loud when I saw the result from Vicarage Road.
Plenty of goals in the Champion's League for our teams tonight. Liverpool 3 up, Citeh 2 up and Spurs 1 up...
Great result for Spurs finishing 1-1 at Real Madrid and they actually could have won it. Kane had a great chance but the keeper pulled off a brilliant save. A special mention for Harry Winks, who had a really good game and didn't look out of place in that sort of company at all. England look to have unearthed a really promising central midfield player.
Leicester sack Shakespeare after selling their midfield and (in all completions) 3 wins, 3 draws and 4 losses - the losses against Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United. They’ve had their glorious day in the sun, what on Earth do the owners expect? At least he got £1m pay off.
They did Os and look where it got us? TF put his trust in "Football" people........... The R's are now trussed up in FFP, have next to no money to spend because of these "football" people......
I was being ironic by calling Hughes, Kia whateverhisfeckingnameis, Kneecap "football" people, hence the inverted commas............Charlatans is one of the more polite descriptions of those people......
They didn't spend enough or spend wisely back then, and sacked Colin the best Manager we'd had in years. Since Redkapp went, they appear to have given up whatever the reason (s). We are favourites to resign Austin in January, but I'll believe that only when it's official. A signing like that would indicate some very welcome renewed ambitiion., All this rebuilding and consolidation stuff, and we maybe in with a top 6 challenge in a few seasons, is a big yawn, and never going to happen.
This is the 3rd season so I expect anyone who watches much at all is well used to it by now! I have been increasingly impressed by the performances Holloway has been getting out of this low budget team even though the results haven't quite matched them. Also there seems to be some promising youngsters at the Club now, U23's doing well, SLF looks to be doing a good job, and a lot of good community work is being done. All respect and credit for that is well earned by the Club. Nevertheless, the lack of ambition / investment in getting us the quality to seriously challenge for promotion now, risks us going the wrong way down the League System for the 3rd season in a row.
I honestly don’t understand how any one can be expecting us to challenge for promotion, or for there to be any investment beyond what the club can generate for itself (I.e player sales). Any other spending would just drop us further into the red and into FFP trouble. We might one day fluke a play off place because this league is a lottery, you can get high up through organisation and commitment, you don’t need great players. But no one should expect it. And there is no way we’ll challenge with a team and manager which regularly goes on 6+game runs without a win.
This. I dont think this is a right thread to talk about it, but we havent done anything for years that even hints somehing else but desperate fight against regation. How can anyone dream about promotion with the players and management we have????
I'm a bit torn on this. I'd like our rich owners to buy their way to the Premier League, but I know it will probably end in tears. So annoying that we ****ed it up (twice) when we had the chance!!
There’s the rub Col. If we do somehow make it up we would obviously have to gamble big and the owners would have to spend a fortune in the hope of staying up. But do it better than last time otherwise it’s Groundhog Day. Even if they didn’t spend anything the PL dosh wouldn’t even cover half of what they have wasted already. To splash out now could mean the end of the club. If you spend and still miss out on promotion FFP would kill us, no excuses next time round, no grounds for appeal.
