I'm watching MLS Cup Final action Toronto FC vs. Seattle Sounders, played in Toronto at BMO Field, Temp -12C (a reason to wear those black gloves), score still 0-0 @ 60 mins - Toronto have had the better chances, but failed to score which could come back to bite them. I was at the United Centre, Chicago, to see an ice hockey match last night. Capacity 20,500 on a footprint less than LR and a great view from every seat, plenty of concourse space. Of course the playing area is a little smaller....... Live top class ice hockey was a revelation. Incredibly fast, skilled, and much, much better live than on TV (though I like watching ice hockey on telly too). If I were over here full time this would definitely be my number one sport.
The NHL is different class to what we see back in the UK, a much higher standard. I used to watch the Streatham Redskins back in the 70s when they were one of the top UK sides. They actually played in the same colours as the Blackhawks but, unsurprisingly, have now decided to drop the 'Redskins' from their official name. Was the match you saw a sellout?...
I was watching Cagliari V Napoli earlier from Series A. There was an ex R playing for Cagliari. Mauricio Isla. He played as a wing back. Still looks a good attacking player.
I see Charlie is out of the Saints line-up today due to yet another shoulder injury:- Southampton top scorer Charlie Austin is out after suffering a shoulder injury against Hapoel Beer Sheva. 39' Substitution, Southampton. Shane Long replaces Charlie Austin because of an injury. 38' Delay over. They are ready to continue. 37' Delay in match Charlie Austin (Southampton) because of an injury. 36' Attempt missed. Charlie Austin (Southampton) header from the right side of the six yard box misses to the right. Assisted by Nathan Redmond with a cross following a corner.
Isla and Vargas were in Chile's winning South American Cup team. There was nothing wrong with the players Redkrapp couldn't get a tune out of them...
Derby stuff 3 goals past Forest that helps us by keeping them company down in the depths. Apart from Rotherham of course, fortunately not many points were gained by our potential elegation rivals yesterday - the table picture would have looked far worse if a few of them had won their games.
Having seen all four of the major sports here Ice Hockey is the only game I watch. (NY Rangers). sb-73, if you get a chance go and see a college game, even better.
Yes, Blackhawks v New York Rangers, both top of their respective conferences. 0-0 at full time, Rangers got the overtime goal. Despite the lack of goals it was a great game, though almost got frostbite trying to get a cab afterwards. I used to go to Durham Wasps sometimes in the early 80s. Really not in the same class as this.
I see that Getafe are now up to 3rd in the Spanish Second Division after picking up a 2-2 draw at Elche. They were actually 2-0 up when Ale came on as a sub, but then shipped 2 goals in 2 min to end up with a draw - looks like they might have been lucky too as Elche missed a penalty to win the match late on (according to Freetranslation.com) Minuto 60' please log in to view this image Cambio en Getafe, entra al campo Alejandro Faurlin sustituyendo a Paul Anton. Austin out long term - Bad news for Southampton fans - the club have just confirmed that striker Charlie Austin is out for three to four months with a shoulder injury. January sales here they come? http://www.bbc.com/sport/live/football/37679030
Liverpool 2 West Ham 2 - a couple of goalkeeping errors helped balance things out, although Randolph redeemed himself with a superb save later:- Mark Welburn: Is that Rob Green in the West Ham goal? Steven Jenkinson: Fair is fair. If you’re having a pop at Karius, you’ve got to find fault with Randolph for that goal. EMH Eagles: Randolph the red faced goalkeeper please log in to view this image 'Just punch it' He is trying to take the catch, trying to take it cleanly, but it is such a stretch - just punch it. It was great adjustment and anticipation from Origi, seeing the goalkeeper drop it. It was a tap in for him, but those are the ones the strikers love. What a save from Randolph' Liverpool 2-2 West Ham please log in to view this image Kevin Kilbane Former Everton and Sunderland winger on BBC Radio 5 live That is the first time we have seen Jordan Henderson step in and take a shot on, and what a save from Darren Randolph. He made a mistake for Liverpool's equaliser, but what a save that is. We've just seen Bruce Grobbelaar and Ray Clemence in the stands, they would have been proud of that one. http://www.bbc.com/sport/live/football/37679030
Bolton 4 Gillingham 0 with JET firing blanks and Max Ehmer obviously having a tough time in defence. I see they also have Paul Konchesky in their defensive ranks. TED's Bradley Dack, who got subbed off late, didn't get a mention in the match text - at least it appears JET was firing in a few shots on goal. After Bolton's relegation from the Championship they seem to be working wonders in League One, currently in 2nd place, looking for a quick bounce back - wonder if the same scenario might happen with us?
Our Under 18s are at Swindon tonight in the FA Youth Cup and took the lead with a goal from Kingsley Eshun. Swindon equalised with a goal from Frimpong and it's 1-1 at half time...
