Holloway working for Sky at Swindon v Charlton today - Doughty and Furlong both playing for Swindon. Ramsey and SLF watching from the stands.
The Tim effect - one big happy family down there - Doughty played 90 mins I see. Swindon Town 3 Charlton Athletic 0 please log in to view this image Tim Sherwood had been out of football since being sacked by Aston Villa in October 2015 Tim Sherwood's reign as Swindon Town's director of football began with an impressive victory as the Robins beat mid-table Charlton Athletic. Jon Goddard and Sean Murray had good early chances for the Robins before Murray's deflected shot gave Swindon a deserved lead shortly before half-time. Lloyd Jones made it two soon after the break as he converted Michael Doughty's flick-on from a corner. Goddard sealed the win, thumping home Yaser Kasim's pass from eight yards. The win was only Swindon's fifth in League One this season and first in five games in all competitions, while Charlton lost for the first time in seven and conceded more than two goals for the first time this term. Sherwood was brought in by Swindon on Thursday to support head coach Luke Williams in a move described by the club's chairman Lee Power as "one of the biggest appointments the club has ever made." please log in to view this image Sean Murray is mobbed by his teammates as he scores the first goal of the Tim Sherwood era please log in to view this image Queens Park Rangers director of football Les Ferdinand and Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers were among those in the stands at the County Ground... please log in to view this image ...as was newly-appointed QPR manager Ian Holloway http://www.bbc.com/sport/football/37881080
After a busy morning installing winter tyres and raking leaves I'm watching a bit of WC Qualifying action - only televised match here is Croatia v Iceland, currently 1-0, that appears being played in an empty stadium (did they get a stadium ban?). 30 mins in Austria 0 Republic of Ireland 0, Wales v Serbia on later.
Watching the Austria V Ireland match. 0-0 after 35 minutes. Ireland soaking up a lot of Austria pressure but have had one or two chances at the other end too. Would take a draw now if offered.
In League One play Gillingham 2 Northampton Town 1 with JET scoring the winner in injury time and former R, Max Ehmer scoring the other goal. Sounds like that pair were running the running the show, combining on the first goal. Ehmer (48' minutes), Emmanuel-Thomas (90'+2 minutes) That pair are actually top scorers for Gillingham - I wonder if Ollie might bring JET back for a look after Christmas, or is he on a season long loan? Emmanuel-Thomas 9 Ehmer 5 Jay Emmanuel-Thomas grabbed an injury-time winner as Gillingham recorded their first League One victory in eight games by beating Northampton. The striker curled a left-footed shot past Adam Smith in the 92nd minute to give his side their first victory since late September. John-Joe O'Toole had given Northampton a first-half lead from close range, but Max Ehmer equalised after the break. The home team started well, but it was the visitors who scored first in the 36th minute as O'Toole squeezed a header through two defenders after being left unmarked in the six-yard box. The Gills then hit back early in the second half as Ehmer slid in at the back post to convert a flick from Emmanuel-Thomas. Both sides had chances to take the lead but the game appeared to be petering out into a draw. However, Emmanuel-Thomas - Gillingham's top scorer this term - pounced late on to give the hosts a win that moves them away from the relegation zone. http://www.bbc.com/sport/football/37880886
I might try and grab a stream for the 2nd half of that match as only SportsNet World televises that one here (an extra $20 per month on the cable bill). Meanwhile I have about 5 channels in my current cable package all showing Croatia v Iceland - not very exciting with no crowd and all you here is the coaching staff barking out orders. Found this stream that seems okay if any other overseas folks are in the same boat as myself with no TV coverage:- http://www.vipbox.nu/football/431654/1/austria-vs-republic-of-ireland-live-stream-online.html
Took a break to grab a quick snack and missed the goal (just like you almost did with Charlie's goal just before half-time against Charlton). Too bad Walters goal disallowed, but it was offside. Looking good though for Ireland.
I have a good friend who sees the Gills home and away...and she says Max Ehmer is the standout player of the season. Everyone loves him and his attitude. Shoe-in for player of the season already JET on the other hand spends whole games uninterested...and though he might score goal of the season 40 yard shot after dribbling round a player and vital goals in the 92nd minute (today)...They cannot stand him!
Watching here - good stream with pop-ups suppressed:- http://www.vipbox.nu/football/431654/1/austria-vs-republic-of-ireland-live-stream-online.html Another goal would be nice - thought for a moment that Walters had it.
I always thought we should have offered Max a contract - JET might be disinterested at times, but 9 goals is still 9 goals, more than any of our strikers have chalked up, plus he set up Max today for his goal.
Gareth Bale puts Wales 1-0 up against Serbia - great goal. Good for Wales and good for Ireland. Almost two after a nice breakaway, Bale setting up Robson-Kanu, a reversal of roles on the first goal. Bale then needlessly gets himself yellow carded after yapping at the ref after a Welsh foul, that leaves Tadic bleeding profusely on the ground.
With 5 mins to play Bale hits the post, then Serbia equalize, 1-1 ......is there an echo in the room?
