It's a valid point. It was an off the cuff response to our chant of being "City til we die." If someone just randomly came out and made the comment, then it's being said in a completely different context. If Asda customers were a united group who sang songs while walking around the shopping centre saying "We'll shop til we drop" and the CEO said they could drop when they wanted, it'd be a bit of a weird comment, but wouldn't be heartbreaking.
It wasn't an 'off the cuff' comment, it was during a pre-agreed media interview, in front of the cameras. There's no such thing as an 'off the cuff comment' in those circumstances. And we didn't sing "we're City till we drop".
..I know. I was using a comparable example since you brought up ASDA. Off the cuff in the sense it was a dismissive comment, I don't think it was some bold statement he was expecting to be the mission statement for his name change movement.
It wasn't comparable. If city fans had sang "we're City till we're happy" and Allam had said "they can be happy whenever they want" nobody would've batted an eyelid. See, it's the die part that is key. The crux is, I'm funny about the owner of the football club I've supported for 35 years saying that "I can die when I want". If you're happy with him saying that then great, knock yourself out. Done.
I'm not happy with it, I was obviously pretty annoyed by it. I'm agreeing with the point that it was done because of the nature of the protest song sung. I just think he's done a lot worse things than to continue citing one comment from 3 years ago that was an upsetting remark.
The council never offered any deal that included the Walton Street car park site and West Park is a public park, it can't be developed. There are plans to develop the KC site, but only the area covered by the existing lease.
Could be I've misunderstood something, but aren't there restrictions on what the council is permitted to do with Walton Street?
He wasn't interested in developing the site. He wanted the freehold so he could sell the club and get his money back.
I think they've had a few run ins with the council re planning permissions. Back of Wincolmlee, Fountain Rd. area?
The old Rosedowns factory development... http://www.hulldailymail.co.uk/asse...ments-appeal/story-21062024-detail/story.html
It doesnt sound as though there's a lot of land to develop to me? How big are we talking? anyway never mind develop Walton St car park how about just leveling it and tarmacing the bastard. That'd be nice.
Why is West Park any different to Pickering Park ? The council have sold part of that for house building. Princes Elizabeth Playing Fields ( and public park) half sold off for business premises and a school.?
Because they've already used up as much as they can, there's only a small park left and they can't reduce it further.
If only one of those travelling tarmacing gangs would show up in town, quick cheap job done for cash.
It's unlikely that they'd develop West Park, but I'd be surprised if there was a specific policy on the amount of development on West Park. It's usually a case of proving a justification to develop a green space, why it has to be that particular green space, and how it will be replaced elsewhere and not harm any protected species. EDIT. Googled and the local plan's up for consultation...http://hullcc-consult.objective.co.uk/portal/localplan/lppub?pointId=s1461149025964 These are the outgoing policies, but the replacements look similar, but are structured differently. NE1 – Protecting designated Urban Greenspace (0.25 hectares and above) The policy does not allow development on allocated green space sites if it results in loss of sporting or recreation facilities, an adverse effect on nature conservation, the loss of a link between other areas of greenspace, or an adverse effect on the amenity or character of an area and in particular the loss of an important view or sense of openness. NE3 – Developing on and replacing Urban Greenspace The policy states that development of greenspace will only be allowed if an overriding justification is demonstrated. In such cases it will be necessary to replace it within the locality or if that is not possible, improve an existing green space within the locality.
There's a lease plan somewhere, we attached it to our ACV application, I just had a quick look but I can't find a copy. The site basically comprises the stadium, the road round the stadium, the corporate car parks, the Airco and the astroturf pitches and the bits in between.
