I never saw the final result of that poll someone did recently on how long people had supported the club, but when I looked most of the people on here had been fans for more than 30 years (myself included). Clearly thats not necessarily representative, but we've missed out on those playstation chelsea fans someone found on a forum musing on which European game had got them into the club
Exactly. Go to the North East and literally everybody either supports Newcastle or Sunderland. When you don't have to compete with other clubs its so much easier. That's why Man Utd, Norwich, Leeds and Newcastle have such massive away followings. Here in London you can't drive 20 minutes without going past or near another London club. Clubs like Norwich have to travel a near 36 miles to their next nearest team i.e Colchester Honestly us London clubs do well to get the numbers we do, but thats largely down to the high contingent of fans in the home counties. Next year (assuming QPR stay up) we're going to have 5 different choices of PL teams alone to choose from (as West Ham will go up IMO). Can you imagine Man Utd, Leeds etc having to compete with 5 other PL clubs on their level for fans? I'm telling you Northern clubs have it easy
