Anyone think Spurs are getting involved just to make us ultimately have to pay more, same as they did with the late Ings bid to increase Liverpool's compensation payment? It's not an unwise strategy if you take situations where it's a close rival in the table and you know they'll keep bidding up for a certain player leaving you to duck out last minute and deplete their transfer kitty a bit more than before.

Yep do you remember everyone losing their **** when odds were suspended on Paul Hart being our manager after Pardew? Most people didn't realise that next manager odds for a L1 club isn't a big market n it was probably one large bet that did it (Probs a skate).

Agree about odds moving for small amounts on these markets, but to suspend completely means they've taken bigger bets at very short odds on confirming its a certainty.

E.g. Judging from this board alone, there's been about £50 @ 5/1 on Toby coming to us, so in reality they may have laid double that, but even then that's £500 liability to them before shortening to 9/4. At 9/4 they'd lay a bit more, say £200-300 before shortening again to say Evens. At Evens, they'd lay about £500 before going 1/2. At 1/2 they'd lay about £1000 (a further £500 liability to them) before going about 1/5. That's about as short as you get before a suspension on transfer markets, but it would take a further £2500 in stakes (again £500 liability to them) before they stop betting it completely.

Worst case for them, they'll lose £2500 on a market like this, but offered more as a customer service than as a big money spinner. Next manager markets are the same, bookies find them far harder to win on because of inside information, thus they restrict their liabilities instead.

Southampton have opened talks with Atlético Madrid over a permanent move for the central defender Toby Alderweireld.

Amid speculation that Tottenham are ready to hijack their attempts to land the 26-year-old Belgium international, the south coast club are hoping to steal a march on other interested parties having already entered into negotiations with the Spanish side.

Alderweireld, who joined Atlético from Ajax in September 2013, spent last season on loan at St Mary’s and made 26 Premier League appearances, all of them starts, as the Saints finished in an impressive seventh place.

I cant hate spurs too much but I really really really dislike them. my great uncle was a spurs fan and there used to be some good banter between us all. I wore a saints scarf to his funeral, cheered up my cousins a bit!

hate them more and more every day now though.
