I am currently learning Hotel California, which my band has decided to cover.

Bearing in mind that there are about four or five different guitar parts layered on the studio track, I am having to work out which bits to play, and which bits to leave to our keyboardist.

Obviously, I will play the epic guitar solos at the end.

Hey, Skids! Got any ideas how I should approach this?

No, thought not, you talentless twat.

@brb

This is track of my own, written a long while ago. Everything you hear is me, except for the drums which are played by an American mate of mine. I sent the track to him, he recorded the drums in his studio, then sent it back.

I'm playing a Gibson Les Paul Gary Moore Signature guitar (one of the original ones made in 2001). Stupidly, I sold that guitar a couple of years back. It had fantastic tone.

Cheers <ok>

Have you got any youtube vids?

The chorus sounds familiar to me for love me baby, some melody influence going on there.

I see no reason why you shouldn't piss that, just add your own style to it.

We are, each of us, the sum of our influences.

There are only 5 tones used in most rock music, so everything is bound to sound similar to something else, if you look hard enough for it.

You can find the videos on YouTube, or on my band's web page.

It's not a gravely difficult track.

The tricky bit, for a band such as ours with only one guitarist, is working out which of the very many guitar layers to play at any point in the song.

Nah i mean something more specific (influence) my head will work it out eventually.

Skiddy, you are consumed with jealousy.

My versions are just that - my versions.

I'm not teach ****ers like you how to play, or to try to copy every nuance of Hendrix, or Page, or whomever. I play these songs how I want to play them. If I had wanted to play it exactly how Hendrix plays it on, say, the studio cut, I would be able to do that.

Anyway, you keep listening to my playing, and long may it keep burning you up inside.
<laugh>
Listen Les if you're going to do copies of other peoples songs at least play them in the right key and make them sound the same. Was that your partner singing on the sister morphine track? If so remove the dildo mate it'll sound better.

So why don't you play it the same as Hendrix? Well we all know why <laugh> All it says on the studio information is that you live in Broadstone. Suggest you edit that mate or some nasty ****er could dox you. <ok>

I'm going to be perfectly honest here, not to wind HiaG up or to take your side, but i personally thought the singing was killing it (no disrespect intended) - sounded much better just HiaG playing, that's meant as a compliment.

I'm no great vocalist - I admitted that when I first put those tracks up.

But, if I want to cover a song in my home studio, someone's got to sing it.

It's the guitar playing that I'm most interested in.

The singing is rank on all of them but have you listened to Sister Morphine yet? <laugh>

As i said HiaG certainly no disrespect intended, i can tell the guitar is more your interest, well done fella <applause> As for the others ignore them, when they can put up stuff showing their talent, then they can be critical <ok>

Yeah it was the singing on that track that i meant but the opposite of that is like giving Elvis a guitar <whistle>

But full credit to HiaG for having the balls to put it up.
