The opening of the dialogue.

If VVD was sold for 75m, and Toby is at least as good
as him, then the "market rate" dictates Man Utd must
pay at least 75m.

... a little too over simplistic .. age and length of current contract are also factors ... if not then we should be asking north of £120 million for Mahrez who has better stats than Ciutinho and achieved more ... realistically City are likely to get him for a deal of around £70 million that might include Patrick Roberts coming the other way ... not a bad profit on a player that cost us £450k although we will undoubtedly miss his quality :emoticon-0101-sadsm <cheers>

Not sure that he is.

However in the silly money world of the PL,
the combo of all current factors means that
the price could get even sillier.
I was going by the VVD transfer really, although VVD is a bit younger.

I don’t care how much he’d cost us, Bring him in, I don’t want to see Smalling and Phil Jones in defence next season.

You guys had the second best defence in the PL last season, in fact you only conceded one more league goal than the all conquering Man City.

I don’t trust Smalling and Phil Jones, There’s a mistake in both of them.

Indeed.

The GA column is not where they have to make
significant improvements if they wish to better Citeh.

For me, whether he stays or goes has to be dependent on Pochettino. Levy trusts him more than any manager we’ve had and if Poch went to Levy and said keeping him was crucial, I can’t believe the deal master wouldn’t be able to put together some sort of creative package that would satisfy him.

So, if he goes it’ll be because Poch thinks he is replaceable.

I honestly don't think Toby wants to be here. I think he knows the wages he's asking for is something we won't pay and will therefore make it look like he wanted/ was happy to stay but in reality he's always been set on a move elsewhere.

A good thing with Poch is that once he knows a player doesn't wanna be here he immediately starts planning for life without them. The moment Walker told Poch he wanted to leave about 8 weeks before the season finished, Trippier ended up playing in most of the remaining games. Similar with Toby this time around, it's obvious he's refusing a new deal/ asking for way too much, he was fit around early Feb time but Poch has kept Sanchez in the side barring one or two games.

Only he knows that. I’ve seen no signs of him agitating.

But he’s pushing 30, becoming more injury prone and wants to make sure that what will probably be his last contract is a good one.

He knows he can get that money elsewhere, so he’s saying ‘this is he’s I want’.

The Mirror is reporting that Levy has “opened talks” with United over Alderweireld, but also report that Levy wants £75m for him.

So, he hasn’t really opened talks, has he! It’s more accurate to say that he’s told Mourhino to **** off!
<laugh>

Here's what's going to happen:

You'll take £45m and say he is a crock.

Or

You'll take Luke Shaw and @ £20m and then claim Shaw is worth £55m.

Shaw is worth nothing to us, he's an awful player for us now, same as Mkhitaryan was, but that doesn't mean he's not good enough for Spurs/Arsenal etc.

Or

You'll offer 30m + Shaw + Martial for fear of Levy
putting teletubby Rose in the deal on the same wages
as Toby.

Getting your excuses in early yeah, Tel?
