I'd like to know why we haven't tried to make more use of the 4-3-3/4-5-1 that worked well for us in a couple of games earlier in the season. I thought we looked good both in defence and going forward in that formation, but since Tettey and Pilks have been out we haven't used it much. Whilst initially Johnson's poor form may have been a reason to drop it, he's getting closer to his best again. Redmond won't support the lone striker so well, but at least with less to aim for in the middle his shooting won't seem like such a criminal waste. With more central midfielders on the pitch too are play won't go through him so much. Not a fan of this 4-4-2 which only seems to be used to satisfy fans as far as I can see. I don't see any advantages to it other than that.

I don't hear any calls of traitor - that's hyperbole. People want to get behind the team.

I don't hope three teams are worse, I know three teams are worse. I do hope that we get a bit more luck and perform better at the right times though. I'd rather be soundly beaten (admittedly not thumped) by Man U if it meant our performance against Palace was better (though given the circumstances I', sceptical about how much better it could have been).

I think RBF is correct, we have a very ordinary squad but all season the performances have been extraordinarily bad.
As you can see by the replies RBF there is a solid argument against your points too. We are all entitled to our opinion . I feel that if nothing changes and we continue down this road we will be playing football in the Championship next season. I still maintain we are the worst footballing team in the PL at this time. Not entirely down to the ability of the players, more to do with clueless management and poor use of resources. Hughton is out of his depth.

How is Hughton 'out of his depth'? He manages a team which last season which finished 11 and is currently 15th.

If performances have been extraordinarily bad all season we would be in last place with 0 points and a goal difference of -999,999. Get some perspective, we will stay up. OTBC!

Let's go with the three currently in the relegation zone. I'd go for 4 points against each one as a good return, 3 points at home and 1 away. Based on this we currently achieved 8 points out of 8 points

Ok, I'm going to take this slightly facetious question at face value:

Crystal Palace - beat them at home and drew away
Sunderland - drew away, yet to play at home
West Ham - beat them at home, yet to play away.

The proof is in the table old boy, it doesn't lie!

I would also argue that Cardiff, though we only managed a draw against them, and Hull, though we were defeated, are worse than us because in both games we completely dominated, though I accept that the table doesn't necessarily reflect that in Hull's case (though I would suggest that they will come plummeting back to reality). I also think we are better than Stoke, though as demonstrated in an article recently they have been very, very lucky with a couple of decisions which is why they lie outside the relegation spots.

I think man-for-man Fulham, Swansea and Southampton are better than us, West Brom and Villa are marginally better, but Villa, Fulham and West Brom have been affected by injury (and dreadful team spirit in Fulham's case), Swansea have been hampered by Europe and Southampton have been extremely fortunate with injuries. Which is why (Southampton aside) it is incredibly tight.

So what do you think? Do you disagree.

If we continue this way, we will end the season in 15th place on 38 points... I'm not sure I get your point there.

I think the main problem is your earlier statement that we are the worst footballing side in the division - you only have to glance at some of the comments on the latest Guardian "ten things" report to see that all opposition fans (or at least the ones who comment) completely disagree and it is only Norwich fans that think this. The style of play is massively improved on last season, though admittedly the results have not. So I'm not sure what you're getting at here either.

As for the "nearly relegated" and the "other teams on holiday" - we would have stayed up without those two wins in any event and the holiday thing isn't entirely satisfactory for myriad reasons that I can't be bothered to go into. That's not to say it's not true, but it's a bit more nuanced.

I'm sure Citeh LOVED being beaten at home by "little old Norwich" - there is no way they would try to beat us with nothing in it for them! <doh>

    Some people are unbelievable!

2 of those teams in the bottom 3 have changed their manager and are improving dramatically, if we pick up points at home we may scrape through but the job has to be done before the final 5 games which to me on current form look unwinnable ....
Glad we have a chance to blood some fringe players and put on a show of attacking football against lowly Fulham on Saturday....<laugh>

Yeah, but we have drawn away against both of those teams since changing their manager... The only ones we have suffered against are the perennial Canary-thrashers Fulham.

I have to say, if previous form is anything to go by, the cup matches are the only ones where Hughton says "just go for it"!

ROB, do you ever watch us play(i use that term play advisedly) we are poorer than the poor teams. As for at this rate we will finish on 38 points i do not think so if we do not improve dramatically. It is highly likely we will take nothing from the last 4 or 5 games of the season, thus at a point a game we would finish around the 34/35 points and probably get relegated. The teams underneath us are beginning to improve, we are not. Therefore i suggest there is a strong possibility they will soon catch us soon.
Unless of course Hughton makes some inspired purchases and loans and has an epiphany and realizes he needs to change he game plan dramatically if we are to achieve the points required to stay in this league. !!

I really do not think that is going to happen, he has no plan B!!!

OK, if you're going to WUM again I'm out <ok>.

    Last chance:
I'm astonished that you think it's acceptable to accuse a fan of not watching the matches when you consider how limited your own opinions are. If you do watch the matches, you are either stubbornly biased against Hughton or just incapable of understanding football. Style is not the same as excitement or getting results. If you think style is about getting the ball into the net with regularity, then I suggest you watch basketball instead of football. Our style has markedly improved, my Aston Villa friend and multiple other opposition fans that you can see for yourself online describe us as a "passing" team at the moment. OK, we're not Swansea, but you are deliberately lying to yourself if you think we are anything close to as bad as the likes of West Ham. I believe even Carrabuh is on record as accepting that our style has improved. I've already stated that I wanted Hughton out at the beginning of December, so don't even bother resorting to the patehtic "happy clapper" tag. The fact is our football style is better, we hit fewer longer balls and more passes than last year. You can accept that, or just lie to yourself, up to you.

You obviously don't get the "point a game thing". You do realise that we have gained a point a game while playing teams in the top eight?? If you remove those teams from the equation, as you seem intent on doing here, we have actually received 19 points from 12 games, which would put us on course for a total of 48 points before playing our last four matches. You're most welcome for this helpful and objective calculation.

In any given siuation Mexican, different people will have different viewpoints, you´ll see, as I explained in #19 that I´m not claiming this to be the right viewpoint, just happens to be mine, that´s all. I tried very hard to be entirely unbiased in my appraisals of the squad, trying to look at it as an outsider might have done, I even took off my green and yellow underpants ;). And depending entirely on what your expectations are for this season, some will be content, and some won´t, can´t change human nature I´m afraid.

And the fact that there has been no decision made at the club yet, nor even an inkling of one, might suggest that they too realise just how important a decision it will be, if they decide to make one. Wouldn´t want to be in McNally´s shoes in this particular situation.

These threads have become pointless debates over CH. Same arguments spouted over and over again; 'm guilty as well, but i think it's time to take a break. Good luck arguing black is white or vice versa depending on your viewpoint

Point taken - there was some interesting discussion earlier, but we appear to be trampling over old ground again and so I'm done <ok>
