Getting rid of the players like I suggested and being more flexible would allow us to sign 1-2 players of a much higher standard mate, there is no getting away from it, also there is no getting away from the fact we spent 29 million on bentley & wilson so this isn't as cut and dry as looking at a table above. Of course looking at that table it shows how our wage bill is agaisnt us from a football aspect but for us in a business sense, that should tell us all what our limits are and imo what they will be while levy is chairman.
Palacios and Bentley cost £27m, but they were signed when there was a lot of money going through the club on transfers, due to the sales of Keane and Berbatov, plus the trio of Chimbonda, Tainio and Malbranque to Sunderland. If clubs know that you have money to spend on players, then they hike their prices up accordingly. You're just repeating yourself and ignoring the facts put in front of you. If anyone breaks the wage ceiling, then it increases wages across the board. We can't afford to do that. Sorry.
It would be interesting to know exactly what Modric is paid. Guesstimates seem to range from 40-70k per wk. This mornings article about him said 45k. If that is true, then Levy needs to up it, and quickly. Modric has said that this is not about money - I'm not so sure. Yes, whilst we remain at WHL, we can't afford to go crazy with our wage structure. But, we can do better. As to some players getting paid more than others, that's just the way things are, in Football, or any other businesss. Some are paid more than others. If, however, you are not happy with the terms offered to you, the answer is simple. Don't sign the contract in the first place.
I believe that it leaked that it was £70kpw when he signed the new contract last season. He wasn't very happy about it becoming public.
I don't agree in Modric's case. I think it would take more than 10-20k to turn his head, even with the lure of CL football. Maybe if they throw in a couple of headbands they might tempt him (1st line serious - 2nd line ppffttt...)
