...or that COYS Daniel could. It's all about opinions, mate. You think that you're right...which is your first amd biggest mistake. If being a bonza bloke was qualification enough to be a successful PL coach, we could employ Russell Crowe.
I clearly remember when the players wanted Ramos gone. There wasn't a direct criticism of the manager, I agree players should have some degree of professionalism, but there was a clear cry of 'something needs to change' from the players. I remember Woodgate's interview just before Ramos was sacked. This is not anywhere near close to the same situation. Supporting the manager doesn't guarantee it'll work, but you know, to dare is to do and all that.
I agree, we all, rightfully, have opinions, but also sometimes a manager is privy to more information than us fans have, so won't necessarily do exactly what may seem obvious to us. Or they may have different reasoning. Of course sometimes managers get it wrong, but always assuming the worst when then players aren't yet is a weird way of functioning.
Juande Ramos had clearly pissed off the whole squad with his dietary demands, though. We'd also started the season in Southampton-esque form, as Redknapp endlessly reminded us. I don't think that the squad morale is anywhere near that level and they like Postecoglou. I'd also be surprised if anyone spoke out about him, as they'd probably be exiled.
Exiled? It's not that serious bro. It's football, not politics. The closest we got to anything that serious was Kane seeking 'asylum' into another club, and even that was quite evident. Who do you think might be wanting to 'defect'? Aside from that, you're saying exactly what I'm saying. He hasn't pissed of the players yet, so maybe the players know something that we fans don't as to why the vast majority of them still want to play for Ange in this team.
I don't think anyone's making any assumptions, just offering opinions on what they've seen. Managers may have more information than us and have different reasoning. They'll still be judged on performances and results. I don't think that Postecoglou's getting the best out of the available players. His style of play doesn't suit most of them and appears to be plaguing us with injuries, too. I'm not a big believer in luck or coincidence, so I think we're doing something wrong there. Could that be down to something else, like the pitch or training facilities? Of course. Is there any way for us to evaluate that, other than looking at his record and that of previous coaches?
Would you prefer frozen out? They wouldn't be involved in much football. They can't leave until another window and presumably want to play before then. It doesn't look like Postecoglou's going anywhere any time soon, so it's a risk to say anything. I don't think many of them want to anyway, as he seems like a nice person. We're not in a position to know the true opinions of the players of the system and manager. They may all think that he's great and they're at fault for failing to implement his system properly. That's still his responsibility, though. It's on him if we're not playing well or getting the results. The balance of the squad isn't his fault, but he seems happy with that.
I'm not accusing you, but I've seen people assume he doesn't know what he's doing, assume he just sends them out on the pitch and says 'attack', assume he has no actual coaching nous. Maybe he isn't getting the best out the players, there may well be truth in that, but maybe the players he has had available also haven't been good enough to achieve the success of holding a particular position in the league. Both things can be true at the same time. Expecting a backup keeper and a defensive pairing that includes a teenaged midfielder who is new to the league to work at top level without hitch, regardless of the manager, is baffling to me. Even if Davies was prime Ledley King it'd be a tall ask, no? Which players does his style of play not suit?
He has a backup keeper in Forster and Austin played well when given a chance. He also doesn't appear to want a proper holding midfielder, for some reason. Which players does his style of play not suit? Virtually all of them, in my opinion. I've said it repeatedly, but our fullbacks all play better wide and our wingers all want to cut in. Maddison is an attacking midfielder, yet he's played deep and wide. Tel is not a lone striker. Vicario's alright on the ball, but not great. Forster isn't even close to that. Dragusin is a good centre-half, but not a good passer. All of our centre-halves have to do too much and run too much, which is why they're all crocked. I think that Bentancur, Bissouma, Sarr and Bergvall would all be better alongside a holding player. None of them look comfortable on the left of a 4-3-3 or even the right, for that matter. It also isolates whichever striker we use, who all barely get a sniff of a chance.
Are.you saying that they want to stay only because he's a nice person, but not because they have belief in his philosophy? You're right we're not in a position to know the true opinions, I'm only going off what's been said, and what we see on the pitch. Yep, it is his responsibility. The balance of the squad will improve over time. We are in transition. It may be a longer period than we hoped. The rebuild necessary is deep because it has been neglected for too long. We didn't follow through with any of our previous managers, including Pochettino. I personally would like to see what that follow-through looks like with this guy, so at least he can be judged from a position of having all of the tools he needs. It's obvious the squad isn't complete. If it flops, then by all means, get rid. I think he's too close a fit philosophy wise to have any regrets about sacking him early. Just my opinion.
I'm saying that we don't know what they think, but they're not likely to say it publicly anyway. I think that they like him and play for him, but it's clearly not working. Dropping out of Europe damages any possible rebuild on numerous fronts. Our poor results are equally damaging. Some of our better players will look to leave. No squad is ever complete, but we should definitely be doing better than we are. We've lost 14 league games this season. 50%. That's appalling.
Spot on. Baffles me how some on here seem to think if we express an opinion or question anything then we’re entitled or don’t want what’s best for the club. Opinions and like arseholes, we all have one and most stink
I never think I am right. But data is more important than opinion. I really like it when people post data that I've overlooked because then I've learnt something. But most people ignore data to the extent that they post stuff which contradicts it. If we happen to win the Europa League this year what then? I will say it is entirely consistent with Levy and Postecoglou being competent. Not winning the Europa League is also entirely consistent with them both being competent. How could it be anything else... we are five or six times more likely to lose than win it.
But that's exactly why I don't value opinions. If you can't show some logic as to how you have formed your opinion then why is it worth sharing? It is manifestly untrue that this season is outside the expectation of what would be expected in the worst 5% of seasons. So if anyone claims that it demonstrates something is wrong then they need to show me why. But no-one even tries....they simply state more strongly that it is obviously true. But both Man Utd and Chelsea have done or are doing about as badly despite having spent more. What's the explanation for that?
I don't think we've even seen the 'it' yet, is my point. It's early. He hasn't built his team yet. I agree, dropping out of Europe is damaging. Some players may well look to leave. That's when we'll see who believes in the project or not, both out going and incoming. That's football. (Technically, we're still in with a chance of being in Europe.) We haven't had a fit centre back pairing for most of the season. Saying we should definitely be doing better is an assumption that I don't quite get. Which team would be doing as well if their first choice CB pair had to be replaced by a fresh teenaged midfielder new to the league and a stand in left back. All whilst the first choice keeper was replaced by Forster. All after losing our best striker, the best the league has seen in along while, and his replacement and cover being injured, in the toughest league in the world. Also whilst competing in all competitions until recently, and having most of our new signings being young players new to the league. Plus, other key player injuries. Somehow, we should be doing better? I'm not saying Ange is infallible, but there are not many managers that would be doing better with these issues, and not many teams who wouldn't be suffering just as significantly with the best managers in place. Especially not whilst attempting to play any kind of football worth watching. On what grounds should we be doing better? Of course I'd like us to be doing better, 14 games lost is appalling, I agree, but young players make mistakes. Especially out of position, over-worked, young players. The dip is to be expected all considered, that's all I'm saying. Clubs with less squad balance issues have suffered bigger dips in their rebuild process, even suffered relegation, and nothing is said of it now because they came out of the other end rebuilt. Yes, no squad is ever complete, but basic balance can be achieved on the way, and until it is, I won't be criticising too harshly. If when square pegs are in square holes, we still have these crazy losses, then I'll be Ange out all the way.
Did you see the third goal in the last game? Spence on the overlap. Son cutting inside. How are they not suited? Forster is probably in his way out. I agree with you on the holding player issue. I think we'll see that addressed next window, either by a new signing in that position or in a new CB which will free Gray up to play in midfield, or both. This is one of the main areas of imbalance in. my humble opinion. I think the midfield is lacking which adds to the issue of over working CB's. Solanke needs fit cover. Richardson has hardly been available. Ange has said that he see's Tel playing out wide more so than being a striker. So he agrees with you. When the squad is better balanced, I think the system will work better.
I've been surprised that the club haven't panicked and sacked Ange yet. I still think he should be given more time. Yes he's made some mistakes (rushing Romero and VDV back was an awful one) but he's clearly learnt from them. He needs another year IMHO but unless he wins the EL he'll probably be gone in the summer.
So, you don't think you're right, but if someone else uses an alternative methodology to yours, their opinion isn't worth sharing...? Okay... Data analysis can be a useful tool. There are things that it has excellent application to, but it isn't foolproof and it isn't truth, it's just one way of seeking to understand reality. A holistic understanding is a far better way to approach anything involving human beings. Being a team, and a good one, is sooooooo much more than any data analysis can measure or predict.
Going deep into Europe means suffering in the league for a club our size, It happens most seasons to most clubs of our stature Imo we did well with Poch regards that but as you all know we had a squad then good enough to win trophies but that didn’t happen and we didn’t build in a manner that would help it happen just how it works for a club our size, that’s why almost all of us expect more in our league seasons where we haven’t qualified for Europe because we all know this deep down. We are not as big as we have been sold the dream of being so we can’t juggle multiple priorities.
