Burkha (pronounced pudhqa) is the name given to a certain type of clothing that covers the face. Chadri means shawl/sheet as does chaadar. The Afghani dress is burkha. Burkha in itself is not religious, neither is chaadar or even the Saudi jilbab (the long dress) Hijaab in Arabic actually means "to screen" so in itself isn't a dress code. Awrah is the name given to that which needs to be screened. Even a house has an awrah. So of you live in a terrace that has no front yard bit then you need to have a curtain of sorts to give you privacy. Here you can use curtains or blinds, which in and of themselves are not religious Similarly the command for women is for an outer garment, this can be a long coat which in and of itself is not religious but maybe the garment of choice in a place/region/country So if say this country banned "burkha" the woman could wear a maxi dress with the Audrey Hepburn style scarf and hat or a snood pulled up to the nose with sunglasses and she will be more covered than in Saudi
......Someone has to be the voice of reason, just happens to be me this time!..........................................................................
My mates mother-in-law is pashtun, she commented on the burkha ban, as they call it the chadri and wondered if it would apply. I don't think the ban is about the covering as much as what that style represents.
The ban is a protective measure. How can anyone tell who is under the tent, or what they are carrying ? Not to ban it's use is sheer madness. **** their human rights on this one.
Pashtuns do call it chadri The reasons for the ban are given as identification purposes. When in reality there are places where the covering of the face is actually not allowed islamically. The ignorance on the issue astounds me, on both sides sometimes. Women who refuse to take off a niqab for identification purposes are wrong as are those who say "well I can't wear a helmet in a bank" neither should they
Now I know what attracted him to our forum. He probably came across you on a rival forum and it was love at first sight. Have you measured for your burka yet ? You can get them in black and white stripes.
I'd like to say that I lost to a better man/woman, ( not sure with you lot ). But I won't. Don't forget the zip at the back of the burka..
