To be honest I'm not a major fan of Cahill but he is better than Jagielka whose only near the England team due to Terry and Rio not being picked/available. Average centre back and we'd win naff all with him and Cahill at the back every week IMO. Luiz is our best centre half by some distance at the moment and gives us an option coming out of defence - like last night when he helped create the goal. Agree we're missing a Makalele. I think Mikel would do the job fine alongside the right midfielder. Just don't think that is Lampard or Ramires though. Oscar maybe.
Not wanting an argument but if this is so why do so many pundits, good pundits, neutral pundits seem to think the opposite. Are they all wrong? Do you think they just don't like him so pick on him or can they actually see how he can't read the game to save his life, is reckless far too often and loses concentration continually. Creating a goal now and then is fine but it ain't why he's in the team.
From a neutral perspective, I dont think you will be as successful this time under Jose. (I may be wrong.) But back in 2004 you had young Lampard and Terry, (british spine) with young cech and Drogba. They seemed to bleed Chelsea. I dont think you have any of that anymore, you could do with some young locals, but lets face it, Jose isnt going to bring anyone through from youth. You have better players than you did back then, but the team as a whole is not in the same league
Absolutely right, Luiz didn't cause any problems in defence and was the only player putting decent passes to the front players. Just don't understand why he is always scapegoated either. Sure he's not a classic English defender, but he is a current Brazil defender, and it's our other defenders who should adapt to his style, because he brings more to the team than the rest of them put together.
Not really that fussed about pundits, who are either people who are failed managers or probably didn't have the bottle to be managers. Rival fans probably see him play twice a season - against their own team. Luiz has been one of the first names on the sheet for Braizil and our last few managers, that says something surely? They must all rate him. Would Barca have bid a load of money if he wasn't any good? Don't see them bidding for Terry or Cahill. I really don't think he makes any more mistakes than any of our other defenders but also offers a lot more going forward. He's made a few errors in the past and because of his style of play and physical appearance, I think it makes him an easy target. If he was playing alongside Terry of 2005, that would be an outstanding partnership.
Not sure why that would matter they are still people with eyes that can see the game. Having played the game at the highest level they presumably have shown they know something about what they are talking about. I think the number of errors is now more than 'a few' as every week there are people picking up on some gaff he's made.I think saying his appearance makes him a target is somewhat disingenuous to be honest and the argument could be used that people support him for the same reasons and because he's a nice bloke. You didn't comment on his reading of the game, recklessness and lack of concentration which are far more relevant than his hair.
They are relevant but wildly overstated IMO. His appearance and style and general demenour means people think he has a kind of care free attitude that they use against him whenever they can. I.e he's too reckless if he loses the ball or misplaces a pass. I instead see a guy that leads by example and tries to get things moving when we are struggling. We've been crying out for creativity for years and it has to be expected that players like that will make more mistakes than players who don't take risks but also don't provide moments of magic any joy to spectators. It's not ALL about winning and Luiz has provided a lot of joyful moments, certainly more than a say Phil Jones type player. Depends what you want but I like to be entertained as well as satisfied with the result. His goal last year v Basel was arguably goal of the season for us. Show me another centre back in world football who could do that with their weak peg? I really think Luiz is right down on our list of worries when it comes to our problems at the moment. I genuinely believe he was behind only Mata and Hazard last year in terms of our best players. Do you think we have a better centre back at the moment? And who?
This is not what you and Chelsea fans said about United's poor pre season... the tune is slowly changing
So let me see if I have this right. After 4 games both Chelsea and ManU have 7 points Chelsea fans are somewhat unhappy with that return but ManU fans are delighted with it. Shows the levels of expectation I guess between having Jose or Moyes as the manager. With Moyes you're grateful for anything
It`s all a matter of who you have played against and if the results shocked you. Our first game (away) we played against a good footballing side who tried to play entertaining football and we beat them. In our second game (at home) we played against a team who knew they had little chance of beating us in an open game so they sat 11 players in their own half and killed the game, result draw. In our third game (away) we played a side who are flying at the moment, they outplayed us in the first 30 mins and took the lead, after that they sat back and absorbed a lot of pressure, we maybe should have got a draw and even could have won but no complaint with the loss. In our fourth game (at home) we played a team we probably would be expected to beat and did so. How`s your season so far.
Twist it how you like. But you know full well the reasons behind what's being said and why. United are meant to be on 1 point and Chelsea on 12 with a Super Cup. But the Chelsea fans logic has now changed somewhat.
Bet none of you expected that after talks with three world class managers you'd end up with a 4th choice manager.
