Not at all. Just someone who was following him on Twitter and saw the joke for what it was, and the kind of thing he'd done multiple times about multiple people, rather than immediately leaping to screeching racism to prove to strangers on the internet how virtuous I am without needing to do any thinking of my own about it. You know, like you did.
Mate I really have to disagree. That was a horrendous thing by Baker. I am very hard to offend, at least I think I am, but that was instantly offensive. If he didnt see that then he probably shouldnt be allowed a school pencil, let alone a pen.
Fair comments but I wouldn't slag our boy off if we'd had blazing rows, even on here neither mind Netflix
" .... another performing monkey to join the performing monkey family' was obviously what he intended." Obviously not what was intended as Baker says it was it was meant in a completely different way. "Would have used same stupid pic for any other Royal birth or Boris Johnson kid or even one of my own. It's a funny image."
The sentence after the bit you put in bold shows I am not absolving her of blame. Like I say I dont know any of them to be able to apportion blame. The headlines in the media bit is pretty well trodden, one of the main arguments when they left for America. There some laughable ones, like the headline that Meghans wedding bouquet might have killed williams daughter because it had poisonous flowers, but there are more darker ones too, starting with the likes of 'we brits...'. Like I say I just feel a bit sorry for the lass, some of her treatment seemed unfair, and I guess she did when her legal case. Cant believe I am debating the royals to be honest, really not my thing. Might need a hobby
Neither would I mate. But that really isnt my point. Who knows, as others have said, maybe she deserves every headline she gets, to me they just seemed quite vindictive but I never lost any sleep over it. Maybe worth ignoring me on this, I am completely disinterested in the royals really, but interested in our written media, which is the only thing I am trying to comment on. Probably irrelevant if the show is about family arguments...
It certainly appeared to be an extraordinarily racist post but I'm sure it wasn't meant to be in the slightest. Just a stupid one because he didn't think about the connotations.
Or perhaps he did, as he certainly should in his position, and tried to worm his way out of it when he was losing his job ... ... whatever the case it was poor. Mock adults as much as you like, mocking children is poor imo.
No ill will intended is the point. It's something he's done for years. I found it funny and didn't once think it might be racist. But that's because I don't live in a twisted fantasy world where everyone, everything and every action has to be either -ist or -phobic.
The idea that Baker was not media savy and did not realise the connotations of his actions, I find hard to believe. Eg being a Millwall supporter he will have heard monkey chants at cold blow Lane directed to black players. I know I did when I went there, although they have moved venues since.
Nor does any poster on here I'd guess. I'm not saying it was racist but you perceived it in a different way in which it was meant ... ... hence how other people might do the same.
The fact that he is so media savy would surely mean that he would not purposely put a racist joke on the internet for all to see? A closet racist on the payroll of the BBC deciding to come out racist by putting that joke on their twitter feed would be career suicide. I suspect Danny Baker isnt that stupid. I suspect that his joke was a dig at the establishment but a momentary lapse of judgement had, suprisingly to him, dropped him in racism territory. Me personally, I didnt even know Meghan Markle was black until her mother turned up at the wedding. Maybe if Meghan was obviously black, and not of a mixed racial background, the penny might have dropped on Danny Baker before he pressed the send button.
Hmm perhaps, I doubt it, still only Danny Baker knows what was in his mind (or what wasn't) i guess. Maybe I lean too much on the Millwall connection, or not?
As we know, people are exactly as clever or stupid as our opinion requires them to be. Even when that opinion isn't even half thought through or based in any kind of knowledge of the subject.
He was stupid enough to get himself sacked from a well paid cushy job tbf ... ... then come up with a dreadful excuse to try to justify the post. He's always tried to play the 'just one of the lads' card, this time he wasn't as clever as he thought he was. Who'd have thought the BBC might be a bit touchy about the Royal Family eh?
My confession is i have not watched any of it, but most days I browse (using the internet) through several papers, they are full if it, especially the daily heil and daily getsmychworse. Just look at this thread, i bet most on here have not seen it either.
