Have it got this right? It would be better for Cortese to cause a major environmental accident than to ban a couple of journalists.
Blimey PTF, you quoted my post and then made the comment. Sorry if you weren't referring to me.... maybe you meant to quote someone else.
No Mate at no stage did I say it would enhance their reputation....they are big enough to live down what has happpened as they are beginning to already. However the name was still in the spotlight all the world will know who they are, and trust me will want to do business with them! Fact of life I'm afraid........
No I meant to quote you, the first part of my post was a response to yours, but then I said "maybe one of you guys who are cheering this news can enlighten me?" as an invitation to anyone who thinks they match that description. Clearly that part wasn't addressed to you. Oh yeah, I know. People will continue to trade with them regardless of any publicity they generate, such is the importance of oil, etc. I just don't think that particular event benefitted them in any way, though, as you say now, it probably made no difference.
Nicola sacked Nigel, so I really don't think he considers this a big deal. We may well get these multi-million pound signings, we may well do better than survive. But a question we might have to ask at some stage is; Success at any cost? I respect NC a lot, he is very good at what he does, but my heart as a Saint feels a bit sad, & all the top players we are linked with won't change that. I want us to do well, but we have to find a balance, or the achievements might not even feel that good.
You all seem to be assuming that Nicola Cortese is behind this negativity, could it be the next level down trying to protect him and are over reacting, I don't expect a qualified answer, as nobody actually knows the truth.
My any publicity is good publicity statement was in jest. To any individual that read the full article they would understand the reasons for the club's decision, its the headline that suggests this could be bad publicity. Obviously not all publicity is good publicity, this has all got a little bit out of hand.
I get where your coming from HR, I haven't had the heart to post much on here since last week's events. Anybody that has read my posts over the last 3 years will know that i'm about as pro Cortese as you can get (a "clapper" as GMI would say!), I was one of the few that put him ahead of NA in the Saints Personality of the Year thread...http://www.not606.com/showthread.php/183995-Spoty... but I really think that something special was broken last Friday. It is probably the first time that I can remember when the Manager and fans had a rare bond and were "together as one", even Fergie at Manure has had moments of disaccord with the fans. Now I will continue to fully support the team and the new Manager but I feel a little bit of innocence has been lost at the club in the name of 'progress'.
I know how you both feel, HR and Saints Alive I've just not had the same buzz I used to have for football since we lost Nigel last Firday. Agree with all of your thoughts guys. Well put.
I want a balance as well. I want us to have enough money to provide the players we need to build the desired team and to add to it as required, but I don't want a team that is solely the best player in every position. I like the idea of a team evolving that we can relate to. At the moment, I think we have that...the team is a mixture of players from the last few seasons with good players being added. It's like a home you design to your own plan compared with a house of treasures produced by an interior decorator.
