Thing is, when you take into account weir Keane and future Henrickson fee he's spent over 25m and the only player to make a positive impact is mbokani who has been a loan signing. Not one of the permanent signings has improved our team, I don't know how much of that you can put down to phelan, but what you can put down to him is the way he sets the team up and instructs them to play, you could argue we've been second best in every league game this year, being fortunate in each of our wins. He is on his arse and needs ****ing off but there is no one better who wants the job, and the owners give zero ****s either way
the positions at right back and left back were caused last year by getting rid of Rosie, Macca. Figeroa and Brady at the start of the season and only buying Odubajo and Clucas - although Clucas is not a really a left back and Odubajo is out all season- most of this seasons targets were Brucies targets passed to Ehab to buy - Ehab carried out most of Brucies wishes after he ****ed off after the row about losing Powell - Mason, Keane and Marshall were all Brucies targets - Phelan is essentially having to deal with the mess he was left - as far as our attack is concerned who exactly do we have Diomande isn't good enough in attack and should never have been bought because he was injured when he bought him as was Powell - again, well done Brucie - Hernandez had already proved he isn't a premier league striker the last time we were in the Prem - I agree Phelan isn't the man for the job but he's having to deal with the mess he was left - no-one else wanted the job and whether anyone likes it or not, Phelan has got more points on the board than Bruce did for the same fixtures and he's got us to the EFL semi-final - no-one is more frustrated and angry about the situation than I am but pointing the finger solely at Phelan is not right - the lions share of this mess is the Allams because of the lack of investment , next is Bruce for putting together a **** team filled with players not good enough at Prem level and then Phelan who should have walked when offered the job and left no-one in charge because no-one wanted the poison chalice
A pretty accurate summary there. Reading our supposed targets in the transfer window mention of right backs, midfield players and wingers. Little mention of people who can put the ball in the net.
Fear the damage done to city by the toxic twins will be beyond repair by then, personally feel that if these two don't go this season, its going to take a long time to sort this mess out.
Don't worry it's just Charon with his Bruce addiction. Brucey either shagged his mrs or nicked his pen.
Why would anyone think that Phelan decided where to spend that money? Remember we signed all these player in the last two minutes of the window. Bruce left because he wasn't allowed to sign anyone. He wanted Nick Powell and Robson-Kanu and wasn't even allowed to sign those two. Ehab took things into his own hands because thought he could get Rashford on loan. Even in last night's interviews after the game, Davies was bemoaning the lack of transfer activity in the summer.
It does seem a huge coincidence that the players we where linked with i.e Mason and Henrikson before Bruce left where eventually signed. I highly doubt they where Phelan's prime targets. I imagine them two along with Marshall where players targeted before Bruce left, and we left it far to late to look at any other targets. Do you really think Phelan chose to sign all his players on the last day of the window? Do we really think Phelan would of refused to sign a striker if he had the money to do so? I doubt it. I am not trying to defend Phelan as I disagree with his setup and his tactics, as we have shown against West Brom and Southampton if we actually attack teams we can take points, however, to then ignore that and sit back for 70 minutes is idiotic. It has happened far to often for it to not be linked to Phelan. However, I won't lay the blame totally at his door, as I reckon if he was allowed to sign 5/6 players of his choice with a decent budget in the window they would of been vary different. We can all disagree about the name change and everything else the Allams have done, but to basically handicap our Premier League season and leave all our signings to the last minute is disgraceful.
Far too many players are pulling out of tackles.they know its a lost cause and they ain't going down with the ship.
Totally agree, we were bloody awful. We didn't get even remotely going until we went the goal down, and all of this after Feeling Negative (Phelan Negative) stated in the press that we had to go for it earlier. This has to be down to team selection and tactics because when we started playing a bit, we looked OK apart from up top. The midfield sat so deep we had a nine man back four for god's sake. Diomande was totally isolated up front. This was appalling stuff to watch on TV and I have never known us be quite so negative. Phelan has to go but I doubt anyone else would take the job so we are probably stuck with him. The only hope we have is if we are sold because until then, I see a very long slippery slide down the leagues into oblivion. I am so totally peed off at watching us play nowadays, I really only look forward to match days to meet up with friends and family. The match now is just a complete distraction. Sorry to sound so negative, But I know I am not alone going by this thread. PHELAN OUT, ALLAM OUT!!
There is some truth in there. If Steve Bruce hadn't blown all our resources on stupidly over expensive ****e Phelan would currently have a lot more to work with.
Just listened to his after match interview on RH. I can't believe he believes the crap he's saying. So Abel is out injured for 3+ weeks. So he should be back just in time for the January transfer window to re-open..
Just heard the interview with Burnsy on Twitter, Hernandez out for 3 weeks, conveniently until January when he can be sold. We won't get anywhere near what we'd have got this summer, not that I thought he should have been sold. I actually feel sorry for MP, he's been hung out by the owners & now the players. Who picks the players to sign & who picks the team? We are going down with no fight, no effort & no clue!
Phelan said repeatedly he'd give a list of targets in. It doesn't matter he can't pick a side he can't motivate and can't make positive changes at the right time
Do people really think the players signed were chosen by Phelan ? He isn't even the manager he's a head coach He's bad enough if you just judge him on tactics and performance , the rest you can blame on Ehab
