Time for a change

Watched the game last night and to be honest I felt sorry for the players on citys side the football they play under the instructions of the manager is so old fashioned and boring ,there has to be a change from the hoofing it up field and hoping ,even Derby who are a mid table side try to play football,and I thought we were lucky to come away with a point.The only way I can see out of this is a change of management or it will be the same old same old and maybe with a lot of luck and I mean a lot of luck we may just scrape into the play offs.Just saying.

Also watched it on Sky Go last night from my bolthole once I'd got the wifi sorted out - I must say I wasn't impressed with the way we performed either. You can say a point gained justified it, but there are other ways.

There's been a few on here expressing a similar opinion about our "style" since we came down from the Prem. Warnock's game hasn't evolved over the years, and his assistants Blackwell and Jepson seems to be stuck in the same mould.

The fact that he did it his way the season before last when we went up has been used to justify that "more of the same" will do it again. I was never convinced of that in the summer and said so on here. This is going to be a long hard season of basically unnattractive football, but I suppose if we end up top 6 or better, some will say it was worth it.

From a league position stand point, think we need to give colin til christmas.
Mid table and its time to give him half a season to work with the squad and see what needs changing personnel wise for next year.

The question is will an acceptable candidate be available or will they all be gainfully employed?
Heard Bamba mentioned as a candidate. Not for me.
Is Houghton still unemployed and would we / he want that? Been there before on relatively limited resources.

When we get the ball to our wingers we pose a real goal threat. We just don't do it quickly enough so they get double marked as soon as they get the ball. Murphy is most effective when one on one with his full back.

For me the early use of wingers is great football but our back 4 and midfield are ponderous when it comes to ball distribution.

The other problems are not getting enough players in the box and poor crosses.

Obviously Tomlin was unfit last night after his car smash but when on his game the ball moves around much more quickly. Paterson as a no. 10 does not provide that.

We are suffering from a relatively poor window. Is that the fault of Warnock or the transfer committee? Or do players not want to come to us due to Warnock's reputation or the stink over the Sala tragedy?

If we are no better than half way by Christmas then I could see Warnock leaving. Neither Andy Legg nor Bamba have the experience to take over but would be good support for a new manager.

Hughton is a good shout but would he want to come here after rejection a few years ago? Also he will be high on the list of other clubs looking to change. Christmas may be too late.

I like to think something is going on behind the scenes with regards to a new manager, given NW has stated it is his last season in management. I know we have heard that before and he may well change his mind. However, the club should be tough now and start scouting around for a replacement if they haven't already started. The club need to take up the reins and find someone suitable and bring them onboard in January irrespective of our position in the league. It should be a watching brief whilst NW is in place. That can be reviewed whilst the 2nd half of the season plays out.
If the above were to happen than the new manager should be looking at the guys he needs in and those he would offload.

As it stands I think we will be mid-table with a chance of a play-off spot if, and only if, we can address the injuries and the best players are picked on merit and not favouritism.

Have to disagree with a few of the grumbles on here TBH.

I can agree that our style is unattractive in long spells and yes, it can be infuriating that we can't seem to pick what look like relatively straightforward passes in order to keep possession a lot of the time.

However, what I'd be really loathe to see is yet another cheap rip off of Man City or Arsenal (think Jacks in their early days or Fulham and sooooo many others these days ) with their sideways and backwards passing for the majority of the game and only creating 3 or 4 chances in a game.

I'd actually still rather our supposed hoofball than that boring tripe. At least we are creating chances (even if we are missing them!).

The ideal scenario is that once Pack ando Tomlin are available again we start to mix it up a bit more and feed the wingers quicker/look for through balls more often.

IF we DO decide to part ways with Warnock I actually wouldn't mind seeing us give Mike Flynn a go. Welsh, seems to have something about him and not yet another recycling of the same old names...

Brizz - couldn't agree more about the boring sideways stuff. This business about making 20 passes to get over the half way line sends me to sleep, but there are other ways. Forget trying to emulate Man City - it didn't work for Fulham on their high budget and it certainly wouldn't for us on what we appear to want to spend.

The quick counter attacking style of 2 sides I don't really like is the way to go for me. There's been no better side than Wolves for years in the Championship the season we went up with them, and Villa this past couple of seasons also played the same way. By all means pass it at the back if you have to, but it's the quick transisition from that to counter attacking midfield and forward play that won them games. The other big bonus was that it was a pleasure for their fans to watch - Wolves in particular.

There is no reason why we can't do that with a management team at the helm who want to do it and are also capable of it. I don't think we have that at present and we also don't have the players brought to the club by the present encumbants to fit the part. This needs an overhaul from the top, and maybe that needs to exclude Neil from influencing the club on his successor.

Its the middle ground between tippy tappy and long ball.
A quick transition from defence into attack.
We probably have the wide players and strikers to play that way. Ralls and Pack (you'd still want a defensive bid) could possibly play that way with the right midfielders with them.
We certainly don't have the back 4 to play that way, though bennet may be the exception.
We'd need to change half the team to play that way. The January window would be a good time to start. But who would identify the players? Not colin.

Agreed remote. Our back 4 treat the ball like a time bomb and seem to panic when in posession. And we always seem light in midfield, probably because we're used to bypassing it.

Survival in the championship this season and hopefully start a new club ethic from academy up. It really depends on who's at the helm.
