Just to put the record straight, the "frostiness" I mentioned a while back, was between Sherwood and AVB, not between Sherwood and Levy.

As for Sherwood's aspirations, I am pretty sure he is desperate to become a manager. Not saying he is desperate to be manager of Blackburn because I don't know about that, but he certainly has big ambitions.

<ok>

i would've thought £1k a week (eg, £50k a year) would be plenty for academy players. That is a BIG wage in the grand scheme of things for someone of that age.
£200k a year is the sort of wage a director of a decent sized company, not a teenage football wannabe.

£4k a week does seem excessive, but it's true, that is what Mason is on. Caulker was on £5k a week a couple of years ago, so we can only guess at what he's on now, probably treble that.

Receiving this sort of wage has been the undoing of some players as you can imagine. We bought a lad from Swindon a few years ago , Leigh Mills was his name and he was a talented lad. He came to us, got put on what was ann unrealistic wage, he got all big-time charlie, blew his chance and he's now a painter and decorator and plays for Winchester in the depths of on-league.

Put them on a max of a grand per week, and they maybe have the incentive to work harder.

Spot on SC.
£1k a week is more than i earn and i get by pretty well. I'm not a teenager either and have financial responsibilities. If they make it then they can have the big bucks. It'll still be too much but at least they will have done something to earn it.

I remember Leigh Mills. Wasn't he schoolboy England captain or something?

Yes he was.

I've liked Mason for quite a while now, but he seems a little stuck at the moment, as he's not ready for regular first team football but he's also pretty unsuited to the Championship.
His loan to Millwall last season didn't work out, for whatever reason (Injuries? Just not selected?), but he seems to be featuring on our bench and played against Carlisle, so maybe his luck's changing?
If his best position's in behind the striker, then he's going to struggle to break into the side, though.

Hopefully Mason can have a similar effect like Livermore did. Jake was never one to set the place alight on his loan spells yet proved to be extremely valuable to the squad due to injuries and rotation. From what I've seen of Mason though, looks a clever player, gifted technically and clearly has an eye for goal.
