The slogan 'City Psychos' was sprayed on the back of some garages of the Avenues area of Hull about 1975. I believe it was copied from some newspaper headlines about the Yorkshire Ripper. One or two City lads lived off the Avenues area at that time and the name caught on. Obviously others will have other versions how the name came about but that is mine.
I hitchhiked to Chester once for a game with another poster off here I'm **** with dates, but it was when we would definitely go up if we won, but we drew and went up anyway .............. I think Early 80's
To be fair, I think groups of men in striped jerseys, swag bags over their shoulders, flat caps and face masks could have confused them at the time.
A few pictures of the Psycho days. The one with the back window knocked out was after our bus was ambushed by Spurs fans as we were returning from Orient (78 I think). The d/decker was Mansfield away (I think) circa 79 ish! Daft and young,eh!
Insurance reasons i believe,badges never did get made but plenty of people did buy Psycho Killer badges from Sheridens
As far as i remember the name came around on a trip to blackpool in 1978,a few on it were coming up with ideas on what to call themselves and someone(no idea who)came up with Psycho's and it stuck.
Some were hooligans,some weren't hooligans,you had to be around at the time to know how **** our away support was at that time,The Psycho's changed all that.
First double decker hired was to mansfield in 78,set off from arctic ranger then onto town before heading off,via a beer off in doncaster to mansfield.
To this day Gerry Rafferty's famous song always reminds me of city away days the excitement building as we wound our way down to baker Street to get the coach before heading off to the bright lights of Darlington or Hartlepool or even Plymouth and Torquay. Bag full of cans and sarnies. Happy days
