Bill Bradbury was worth the price of admission alone. Great entertainer. I'll always remember Brian Bulless as he was the first player I'd seen who utilized the long throw-in into the box. Classy player with a cultured left foot.
Indeed he did, as a 17 year old, replacing Colin Smith up front. Fearless player was C.C. Always gave 100 %.
Me too, we used to stand right behind the goal at the North stand when I first went. I was only 10, going to games just with a few mates, wouldn't happen these days. Remember Bill Bradbury's boots, had a lighter tan insert on the toe cap. please log in to view this image

Those were the type of boots I wore when playing for Anlaby CP school. I can remember my mum & Dad bought me a pair of Continentals for Xmas, and we were playing a big game against Hessle C of E in December. I pleaded with my Mum to let me wear them for this game and she wouldn't, said I had to wait till Xmas. As it happened we won 2-1 and I scored the winner.
Ah, Hessle C of E. Just round the corner from my parents house on Beverley Rd Hessle. I went to the other Hessle primary school - Penshurst C.P. If I recall, you mentioned you'd lived on or close to Spring Gardens in Anlaby ? My maternal Gran lived at 3 Spring Gardens. used to walk from there to City's home games at BP in the mid-50's to early '60's with my granddad & a couple of his mates. Those were the days
That must have been the same side as the Coop, my best friend lived at 13, and we lived at 59. I used to take the number 9 bus from there to North Road and walk to the ground, Jonny Stephens used to get the same bus to the game, ho times have changed. We would always walk home so we could spend the money on sweets.
Unfortunately, it was a tap in, near post after a corner. Just an intelligent run, to outwit my marker.
Great series of series was "Lovejoy" - Ian McShane was perfect for the part. please log in to view this image please log in to view this image
Amazing to think Kevin Kilbane had in total 110 caps for ROI - over a 14 year period - 66 of which were consecutive ROI international fixtures.
