Final day permutations
If Southampton draw on the final day and West Ham win but score four more goals than the Saints, their records would be identical. This would bring about a special play-off, in which the winner would secure promotion while the loser would enter the regular play-offs.

It's in our hands .... don't know if my blood pressure can take it ...

Ignore that though

So head to head wouldn't count?

Yes, head-to-head does count. Which is why I've said to ignore the quote from the BBC website. Someone at the BBC hasnt bothered to either research the rules, or research the two games between us and WH this season.

Could someone tell me what will happen if we thump Coventry 6-0, and West Ham do whatever the hell they like?

We go up and I dance like a loon all afternoon. The cultural olympics creates a new sport of smiling and the residents of Southampton are proclaimed the winners!
