Ok, 3 tickets taken, 3 going spare. If anyone on here wants them, please let me know by Monday, if not I have a local guy wanting all three.
As you know I might have moved house the day before nd wasn’t planning on going. But I wouldn’t want to see you stuck with them. Don’t save one for me, but if you are still stuck with one on the Saturday morning if I can get away I wouldn’t see you lose out and would Bell you. Let me know if you have managed to shift em.
Thank you matey will keep you informed! It would be great to catch up anyway. Not too bothered about getting stuck with them even though it is unlikely. Haven’t done anything about the hospitality yet anyway so just thought it was a decent opportunity for a catch up. Thought they would be gone by now tbh with all of our avid supporters on here
The seller has pulled out today.. ****ing twat. Cos I am a nice bloke we have still exchanged on ours and have to be out on 19th and have nowhere to live! Not bothered about that but we have done a couple of £k on searches and solicitor fees.
Sorry to hear that. Some points to ponder, given we've been through similar. 1. DO NOT entertain the idea of storage. It's excruciatingly expensive. I was quoted £180 pw for a 150sq ft storage area (size of a single garage!), which apparently is all you need for the contents of a 4 bed detached. It's a lie. We downsized, with a ruthless (we thought) clear-out from a 4 bed to allow us to fit into a 3 bed. We now find ourselves in a rented 3 bed jammed full of stuff, as is the garage & hut. And also the garage & hut in the property we bought! I'm sure there are cheaper storage facilities, but go in eyes open - it really is prolly cheaper to rent a big house! 2. Rental. This was the next shock for me - did you know that you must rent for a minimum of six months? I didn't. Not only that, most of the larger properties are only available for annual rent. Cuts down your options hugely. For reference, I'm paying £1100 for the 3 bed, plus bills. I was all for renting in Malta in a nice apartment for €500pm, right up until I looked at storage costs. (btw, rule of thumb in Malta is that you pay high weekly rents if rental is less than 6 months, low monthly rents if you sign up for 6 month. Can be cheaper to take a 6 month lease out if you only want to stay 2-3 months!). 3. Storage. I would recommend 55l lidded plastic tuf boxes, available for £6 in Costco, especially for longer storage. Cardboard boxes are relatively expensive, don't hold as heavy a weight, are not as stackable, are not water or rodent-proof, and prolly unlikely to get used again. You should be able to stack them to the roof, safe in the knowledge that your stuff is as secure as it gets (you can padlock if you want). You can also sell off the boxes later, for £4-5 easy. I bought 70. 35 are still full of stuff, 35 waiting to be re-packed. Btw, I used colour-coded stickers for the various storage options (long-term, immediate etc) I had, as well as the usual 'fragile' & blanks to detail contents. If going to store for a while, you might think of packing 'special' boxes. In our case, it was Xmas boxes for easy access. In your case, it might be holiday stuff, for instance. 4. Bottom line. If you're really stuck on the 19th, I have the house in Wetherby available as I've not sourced a builder yet (but will soon). I was more thinking of free temp storage for you until you get sorted, as I personally wouldn't live there. If you can put up with 'old people' decor, carpets, curtains & cooker, plus the joys of polystyrene ceiling tiles & giving it a massive clean out, then fill your boots. Actually, it's not too bad - we decided to stay out to avoid the building work. We've kept on the heating etc. for insurance purposes. Your call, but might only be avail for a few weeks. Worth considering as a temp fallback though. 5. Moving. Found a local man & van team who were brilliant. £40 per hour for 2 or 3 man team. Worked all hours, dismantling & rebuilding wardrobes, multi-gym etc. Got him on FB if you need to speak to him. 6. Insurance. You might not have a house come the 19th, but you still have contents. FFS, don't forget your insurance. 7. Landline. You might lose your landline number. I did through BT being incompetent. If you really need that number for business or whatever, start finding out what you have to do. 8. Broadband etc. package. Virgin were barstewards. Wanted me to pay up my contract even though the rented place I was going wasn't 'cabled'. Fortunately for me, they were upping their prices, so I was able to use this to legally break the contract at no cost. Yes they could have mentioned this to me instead of charging, but chose not to. Funny, that! 9. Cleaning. I know a cracking company to use for doing your final house clean, if you want to avoid doing it yourself. Tracy was recommended to me by the letting agents I used. Ex army & Scottish. Lives in Harrogate, as I recall. Only £125 for a 4 bed! I ended paying more than double that for a last minute (unsatisfactory) clean (long story). 10. FFS, don't forget to re-direct your mail Easy to forget in the melee. Check if you can easily change destination addresses if you're going to be moving around, or if they'll hold for collection. There's prolly loads of other tips I could pass on, but nothing immediately springs to mind (painkillers kicking in & demanding afternoon nap). Fire off any questions you've got & see if I (or anyone else here) has encountered similar. Oh, and don't forget to get it confirmed in writing that you've submitted your final energy / water readings. Nearly 5 months later I'm still in dispute with the idiots at Sainsburys Energy. Best of luck!
Try Gumtree for commercial and lockup storage might be cheaper than those yellowbox type places. Plenty of old workshops and garages, safe units after businesses have gone bust etc
I really appreciate you taking the time and trouble to write that, but my unusually long silence this afternoon was caused by us going out to see what our options were. We are going to sign for a new build at Killinghall tomorrow lunchtime. It will be ready to move into in four weeks. So we only have two weeks living with the MIL! Given that we are only taking 2 sofas, the tele, double bed, bed side cabinets ( giving the rest away) we will possibly use you an and a van if you pm me his details. The only concern in the above Is virgin we are 4 months into a 12 month contract. I can see a punch up coming. Thanks again for taking the trouble.
Cheers. Best of luck with Virgin. Ask for someone in england. Indians follow scripts. Here's your man...
