Exactly, there are lots of reasons why people can't go to games. Life is not that simple unfortunately. To say they are any less a fan is naïve. They are still having their weekends ruined by defeats, jumping about the place when Saints win and thinking the world has ended when they are knocked out the cup and even worse relegated.

I am a member and got my one ticket for the Bournemouth game. In my opinion the priority for Cat A games should be:
Season Ticket holders own seats (obviously)
    Members (one ticket per membership)
Season ticket holders extra seats up to 2/3 (debatable)
    General sale.

I can see both sides of this. I am clearly a plastic fan despite having supported Saints for very nearly 50 years, but I can't afford and don't have the time to get to many games these days. If I could afford to I would buy an ST and sell back the games I couldn't get to, but it isn't possible.

This highlights how stupid the phrase is.

if you have the cash you can go to the games at home vs Chelsea, Man City and Arsenal without having to build up points by seeing Saints vs Stoke, WBA, etc.

I never said being a plastic was to do with not having money.

If I have got it right, you agree that members should get first dibs, on tickets, then season ticket holders should get a shot at buying extra tickets, before they go on general sale?

If that is right, I would have to disagree with you.
I think it is extremely important for the general public to have the opportunity to buy a match ticket, without needing to be a member or season ticket holder.
By narrowing down the group of people, able to get a ticket, you run the risk of alienating future fans, that can't
I would disagree with season ticket holders getting priority over general sale, especially more than 1 extra ticket.
I might be wrong, but I would presume that the season ticket holder would be buying tickets for the same friends, meaning that the seats are taken by the same people, which is effectively a closed shop scenario.
The general sale, ahead of season ticket holders, allows the spare tickets to go to some, who may be first timers, at SMS, effectively the future fan.
If casual fans are excluded from watching Saints live, because they don't know a season ticket holder, or can't afford or can't attend often enough to warrant being a member, then there is a risk that fans may be turned off from watching live games, something that could be passed down to their children.

It's a good point and a reasonable argument. I don't dispute that. However, I DO think that, as someone who's paid out a lot for a season ticket, I could be allowed priority to buy 1 ticket (as was the case last year) before going on general sale.
There's some good arguments both ways here and it just shows you can't satisfy everyone all the time. However, I do think the membership idea certainly benefits those fans who only want to see games against the "big" teams - I've supported Saints through thick and thin since the mid 60s and finally managed to get a season ticket last and this year. However, I'm looking at my budget for next year and I doubt I can afford it - so I'll get a membership and pick the games I want to see. So, they lose my money - their choice.

BTW - Chilco - you can only "sell back" your ST if the game is fully sold-out (and, interestingly enough, the last "sold-out" game the seat next to me was empty) AND you don't get money back, only a credit which you can use against next season's ST ........... Not very tempting for me I'm afraid.

Anyway, I'm now waiting to see if I can get 2 tickets for my brother in law and niece when they go on general sale .............

Too much lumping people into groups here....not every member is seeking to only go to big games (I certainly don't) and there are lots of reasons why people don't have season tickets. I was delighted when they reintroduced membership...after all it is money for old rope for the club. I have paid my £25 and have been to a friendly, Everton :emoticon-0106-cryin and now Leicester. I may not go to many (especially as I prefer 3 pm on Saturdays), so it may not be financially viable to me, but I like the sense of belonging.

Absolutely. And that is why I'm getting a membership next year instead of a season ticket. 3 pm on Saturday appears to be getting more and more rare as a start ........... :emoticon-0101-sadsm

If you don't mind, I'll finish your sentence Dave. ...... as TV takes over in importance versus supporters in the stadium.
