This is the case for many world championships however.

1984 - Had Mansell not spun out of 2nd place Lauda may not have got the 2nd place he needed.
1989 - Senna could have won this title if he hadnt cut the chicane, that would of made him 4 times champion and Prost 3.
1994 - Hill could have won had Schumi not taken him out.

There are always could/shoulds but I think what counts its what actually happens, truth is for whatever reason Alonso has only won 2 not 5 :)
