Anyone not watching Chelmsford tonight should take a look at FREEROLLING in the 8:00 Some performance 4 winners today for SDS and all quite different but brilliant rides
For finishing 2nd or 3rd in this case...not bad i would say..of course had it won it's a lovely return. Win only bet gets you zilch..
The thing with betting at even money your stake, is that it is OK on a one-off basis but if your next each-way at 12/1 fails to place, you are no further on to level stakes bets. The question to ask is whether you can sustain a high enough strike rate of placing horses at 12/1 odds to make a profit long term. I would be saying no if I were asked and suspect that most people would need the occasional winner of those each-way bets to help stave off the losing runs. Obviously if you need a winner to be profitable, you might as well have the full stake on to win and maximise your profit. Sometimes I would rather have two win bets in the same race than do an each-way. If you do two at 12/1 and one wins, you are betting 11/2 your stake, rather than evens for an each-way bet on one. Each to their own though. I do have the occasional each-way and managed to get one placed at 100/1 this season.
Haven't been doing too badly of late with e/w wagers, but agree, price taken must be at least 12/1 or more, otherwise hardly worth it?
Depends a lot on the horse and the framing of a race. If you think a 5/1 shot has a good chance of beating an odds on shot in an 8 runner race I think the EW bet is very fair. Especially if you think it’s well clear of the rest in terms of chance. If you think a 33/1 shot will either run a massive race or blow out, then perhaps a win only bet (or back to lay even) would perhaps be the call rather than an EW bet. I’ve backed EW at shortish odds and played win only at massive odds. I think the mistake is that betting EW should be something done at big odds and win only is only for shorties.
I always back each way even at prices as low as 3/1.. Been beaten by too many short heads, noses and necks over the years.
