Back in the day, (think it stopped in 90s)

An english top flight eleven used to play a match against a serie A eleven.

With the strength of serie A at the time we usually got tonked.

Just been looking at the fifa team of the year and it doesnt take much to establish that all players play in Spain. How good would it be to puty a premier league team together to play that team in a one off.

Would love to see Ronanldo and Messi play together.

Who would you put in the premier league eleven to beat the Spanish Fifa team. Id go with:

    GK
    RB:Johnson
    LB:Cole
    CB:Kompany
    CB:Agger
    CM:Silva
    CM:Yaya Toure
    CM: Fellaini
    RF: Suarez
    LF:Mata
    CF:Van Persie

    Bit biased in some respects?

  2. I can't remember this? I remember the Anglo-Italian cup vaguely but I'm sure that was between domestic teams and a bit like the Intertoto Cup thingy???

Three or four years back I posted a theoretical charity game. Liverpool/Everton players vs Man C/U players. Min of 5 players from each team.

Back then it would have been fairly even. Unfortunately power shifted east.

Think La Liga would kill us but Serie A might be a good match.

  9. Taking Felliani out leaves the centre a bit weak defensively IMO. Cazorla and Silva will both attack more than defend, Toure is there but he likes an attack or two too.

The Anglo-Italian Cup (or Anglo-Italian Inter-League Clubs Competition)[SUP][1][/SUP] is a defunct European football competition that was played intermittently between 1970 and 1996 between clubs from England and Italy. Founded by Gigi Peronace in 1970, following the success of the Anglo-Italian League Cup, it was played as a professional tournament until 1973. Swindon Town were the first victors in a match that was abandoned early due to violence. During its time the tournament had a reputation for violence between fans,[SUP][2][/SUP][SUP][3][/SUP] but it returned as a semi-professional tournament in 1976 and was known as the Alitalia Challenge Cup, Talbot Challenge Cup and Gigi Peronace Memorial before it was abolished again in 1986. The tournament was re-established in 1992 as replacement for the Full Members Cup. The professional event for second tier clubs ran for four seasons before being abandoned due to fixture congestion
