This got me thinking about the first pair of branded football boots I had as a kid. I had a pair of Adidas Beckenbauers with moulded studs when I went to secondary school, which would have been around 1976 or 1977.

Can't remember my first - but do remember getting a pair of Patrick boots around the time of your recollections - made with Kangaroo leather... incredibly comfortable compared to what I'd had before ...

Yellow stripes, right?

They were a right of passage in those days. Beckebauer Supers I'm sure mine were called.

Patrick were also nice, but Puma King was the absolute bomb when I got a bit older at school.

Still are TBH.

Don’t remember yellow stripes TBH, do remember they had quite big tongues which was somehow fashionable.
Don’t remember what I had after that, but pretty sure I didn’t have Puma. I do remember being desperate to have screw in studs!

Hi Tec made decent boots too

Got pelters if you had them as trainers when everybody else was wearing Adidas, Nike, Diadora, or Pumas though.

I remember those Nike that BA used to wear.

And yeah Pony was only in NFL

I was obsessed with American football from when channel 4 started broadcasting it back around 1984

Went to see the Dallas Cowboys v Chicago Bears at the old Wembley. Spent most of the time watching the Cowboys cheerleaders

I liked the concept the merchandise

Washington Redskins were my fave outfit due to that amazing looking native Indian elder as the logo…along with Miami Dolphins and their perfectly paired orange and turquoise colour combo. The Raiders stuff Ice Cube wore, the Fridge, fat bastard playing for the Bears. The Cincinnati Bengals for one of the coolest helmets with the tiger stripes etc etc

Apart from that didn’t interest me as a sport, tried here and there to watch a game…really struggled

I was really into it. Redskins were my team, but back in those days Chicago Bears were the dominant team, with that fat bastard the Fridge, Walter Payton wide receiver.

Couldn’t not like the LA Raiders with that badge and the whole Ice cube thing.

Watching it on channel 4 was good. But going to see a live game was really boring as it’s just stop start all the time and a 60 min game takes about 3 hours to complete.
