Apparently it was the best World Cup final ever.
Let's have it in Qatar every time.

I saw the result and thought - as I always do in games that follow that kind of scoring pattern and then shootout - that those there got value for their money.

Then don't touch the men either :) fairly simple

I'm sure the Argentinian keeper has been flogged by now if such rules are being applied 100% cos this is being hosted in Qatar?

I mean that'd be the minimum for lude behaviour no? If he was local he'd be beheaded.

so... if not then why not have just the tiniest bit of manners and shake the women's hands.

People keep making excuses for the people who've been caught out bribing officials across Europe in a very similar way to how they bought this tournament corruptly and killed off.

    https://www.football365.com/news/it...esque-uk-qatar-repsonse-keane-world-cup-stain

At least roy keane was able to make comment that this world cup is stained. Neville went off on a rather odd rant of some sort or other.

Apparently neville's tactic to avoid critiquing qatar at all (see his not the 9 o clock news hazing) is to deflect and pivot the conversation towards the UK unions and talk about the uk government. You'd wonder if he found a few diamond encrusted watches on this pillow in his luxury 5 star hotel.

to be rightly criticked by a tory ****s like duncan smith "“To compare a country that demonises gay rights, executes and brings in migrant workers by the truckload and pays them a pittance to a democratic country that has the concept of human rights, rule of law and all that goes with it – he’s abused his position.”

That's a ****ing amazing situation for garry neville to be in.

I'm certainly not going to watch any more games set in Qatar for this world cup. I'm going to stick to my morals.

Our 'manners' and their 'manners' are worlds apart. What you consider to be a tiny bit of manners is probably highly sinful to them, in this instance.

We agree that the WC should never have been hosted there. We also agree on pretty much every aspect of the treatment of gays and migrants and the awful unnecessary loss of life but we can't impose our cultural norms on them. Imagine this the other way around and we were being asked to not touch women or to take down the rainbow flags because it offended them. Not everyone agrees, for example, with the gay lifestyle and they are entitled to disagree with it. You can't force people to adopt your way of thinking as being the only way of thinking.

ok so the Argentinian keep making a lude gesture in front of their guy and the world is not highly sinful and ok but touching a woman's hands is?

Its pure double standards on their part, the stamped their feet and got away with item after item which was not in keeping with ANY of the fifa charter and all to have a lovely show.

They clearly had a pre-planned ceremony and pre-planned official team set for each match. If they have yet another thing about touching women then come up with a formal greeting of respect when handing the medal and do it for the entire team of officials. I have no issue with a group of people who all sign up to the religion partaking in whatever things they want but its this simple, its then just as disrespectful to force your protocol on one person due to their gender "just cos you bought the damned thing to get a sports wash image of you with messi"

A little thing in passing was he'd no problem patting her on her back though.

I wish this world cup was awarded to a group of arab nations or egypt or morocco where football actually matters. It'd be great to see somewhere that actually gave a stuff (not rent a crowd) have it if the intent was to promote the game. the real intent was sell it to highest bidder, that's exactly what they did in the back pockets of fifa hierarchy.

If anything this was an opportunity missed to promote a positive message about the middle east, lost through corruption, human suffering and then total intransigence; that it had to be this way or no way and each time the rest of world views were ignored (which would have been a red flag day 1 of bidding process in a fair bid btw)

Right. I'm going to try and make this the last thing I say on this.
We can't impose our morality on others, regardless of how "right" we feel we are, but equally we can't be expected to accept things which are abhorrent to us simply because it's "their culture".
If we feel that their behaviour contravenes what we believe to be universal human rights, then the most we can do is express our concerns and refuse to deal with them, whilst continuing with dialogue to try and find some common ground and a solution for the future. This is of course, doubly difficult when we rely on them for trade.
There's no point in creating pariah states unnecessarily - stability around the world requires maintaining diplomatic ties even with an outright enemy. Whether or not holding major cultural events there is acceptable is a matter of debate, and I've already made my position clear on that.

<laugh> I know what you mean. However,
they'd already paid the money for a 90 minute game so an extension by about 45 minutes means they got one and a half times what they thought they'd paid for. Think of it like this, you pay for a burger and chips and when the order comes there are two burgers inside the bun. :bandit:

We agree on pretty much all of this. The cup is over now so we can move on and laugh at Gary Neville for his outrageous hypocrisy.

Whats important is to ensure the corrupt fifa organisation doesn't pull a stun like this or the world club cup in future AND to laugh at Garry Neville.

I bet garry neville will be stupid enough to wear one of his new Rolexes at the man city game tomorrow night.

I believe that the Lebanese rent a crowd were actually shafted by this process as they were paid to go between games wearing different shirts and extra time was their own problem.

this was the most cynical, faked, world cup ever.

The city game has been moved to Thursday 22 December, KO 20.00. ( I didn't know it had been moved and think I am correct with the update).
