I can see us emulating last season quite comfortably actually, particularly if we get off to a flying start like last year (how on earth did we lose to Liverpool?). I also think that if we are right up there again around Christmas, we may see a slightly more active cheque book than we did last year, just to try and fend off that malaise that saw us fade away. I don't share the concerns about our defence as I've already decided that we're going to produce a marquee signing or two in that department before the window closes.

I think everything is falling into place nicely. I agree we're a lot better up front. I think we'll buy a top centre half and maybe another midfielder. I think the europa league will help us, we'll go into the Newcastle game fitter and sharper than them. Also, we should be able to blood more youngsters in the group stages if we, hopefully, have meaningless games. Maybe find a Harry Kane.
    All rosey!! I say
5th-7th in the league ( champions next season I'm afraid)
Past the group stages of EL*
Semis League cup ( it's only 3 wins to get there I think!)*
    FA cup final/winners*

    * Two of these three!

    For me
    PL 12th
    FA Cup 4th
    League Cup 3rd
Europe League Winners (hopefully) Realistically, I think getting to the Group stages will be an achievement and then let's take it from there. There are some big boys in the competition and right now I'd go for Borussia Dortmund as the eventual winners.

Having a couple of competitive Europa games may favour us in the league initially. Last season we looked more match ready than other teams and I'm not sure these flashy long distance tours do the big sides any favours. It is ridiculous how the top clubs moan about not getting a Christmas break when they drag their players half way round the globe for preseason.

Well the 39th game in the PL is still being debated, not that I think the players would want it after a long season, but the powers that be (SKY) might want it as part of a future deal.

If the squad were locked as of today, think we might struggle to meet some of the expectaions. But with a couple more players to give some more depth to the squad (quality CB at the very least) I am sure we'll give it a great go. Can't wait for the PL season to start, and that was a great result the other night to kick off the Euro campaign, bit of an ugly win, but would take that every time!

He's got it correct. If you are a losing semi-finalist you are equal 4th. Unless there is a play-off to decide who is 3rd. ;)

Domestic treble and Europa league. If we can't achieve that then its "Koeman out!"
In reality though, I fancy us winning some silverware and keeping the top 4 on their toes. I'm really liking the way our squad is shaping up and with a couple more strong additions I think we'll still be better than the chasing pack and will be in competition with Spuds and the dippers again.

If someone told me now that we'd take 6 points of spuds and the scousers, I'd be a very happy fan.

Disagree. Winner is first, final loser is second, the next two are joint third unless there's a play-off.

Well then that's different to races, where if there is a joint placing the next place is skipped. For example, equal 1st is followed by 3rd.

You may want to reread what you've written. That's exactly what I'm describing. In your version there would be equal seconds followed by a third.

    I'm saying the positions will be 1, 2, 3, 3

    You're saying 1, 2, 4, 4
